She Played Weak for Sympathy, So I Walked Away Without Looking Back Chapter 08

I know everything Camille did. I was a complete bastard. I was blind to how cruel and calculating she really

was.”

Julian’s voice trembled, andhis manner was almost pleading.

“I failed you when it came to our baby. Please come home with me. I’ll make it up to you. I awear I’ll never interfere in anyone else’s problems again, and I’ll stay away from every other woman.”

I almost laughed.

“Julian, do you really think our problem was that I objected to you helping someone in danger?”

“Your biggest problem is that you know the right way to handle things, yet you still choose the way that makes me most uncomfortable and causes me the most pain.”-

The color drained from his face. He could not offer a single word in his defense.

“I’m sorry, Natalie. Please give me one more chance.”

“There won’t be another chance.”

I cut him off, my voice quiet.

“Julian, the baby is gone. Whatever existed between us is over for good.”

Still, there were things I needed to make clear.

I opened an album on my phone containing the original design schematics for my patent.

“When the company was on the verge of collapse, the money that saved it came from selling my patent, not from Camille. I was afraid the truth would hurt your pride, so I had her deliver the money for me. I never imagined you would spend all these years feeling indebted to her.”

I could not help but reflect on everything that had happened.

“I’m only telling you this because I will never again sacrifice myself so someone else can reap the rewards. Everything I have belongs to me and me alone.”

“And I will never again want anything that isn’t mine.”

The revelation struck Julian like a bolt of lightning.

He stood frozen, looking as though every ounce of strength had drained from his body.

“It was you. You were the one who had stood behind me and supported me all along…”

Trembling, he stepped toward me and reached for my hand.

I pushed him away coldly

“You can leave now. Don’t make me say something even harsher.”

Julian left.

The moment he was gone, my world became peaceful again.

The days that followed seemed to race by.

Julian sued Camille and exposed everything she had done online. Her reputation was destroyed, and she

came straight to Savannah and dropped to her knees in front of me.

“Natalie, please talk to Julian. Make him leave me alone. Aren’t we best friends?”

I looked coldly at her tear-streaked face.

“You should be begging Julian, not me. I’m divorced from him, and I have no obligation to contact him for

you.”

Her expression twisted.

“Drop the holier-than-thou act.”

“Natalie, what I’ve always hated most is the way you act like you’re above everyone else. I have to scheme for everything I want, while everything falls right into your lap-including Julian.”

Her eyes reddened as she grabbed my hand.

“Please, Natalie. I used to treat you so well. I promise I’ll never go after Julian again. Just convince him to let

me off this once.”
