Julian stood rooted to the spot as every drop of blood in his body seemed to turn to ice.

It had all been fake.

Camille had been lying to him the entire time.

All the details he had deliberately ignored came rushing back at once.

No wonder every one of Camille’s crises happened precisely when he was with Natalie.

Whenever she claimed someone had harassed her, she would come crying to him, looking frightened and

fragile. She had never once agreed to call the police.

Natalie had confronted him again and again with tears in her eyes, but he had dismissed every question as jealousy and drama.

Julian clenched his fists, charged toward Camille, and seized her by the throat.

“Camille, you bitch!”

She screamed in terror. The moment she realized it was him, every trace of color drained from her face.

“Julian? W-why are you down here?”

She frantically signaled to the man with her eyes.

Realizing something was wrong, the man tried to run. Julian kicked him hard in the knee, dropping him to

his knees in pain.

Julian let out a humorless laugh, his eyes burning with hatred and regret.

“If I hadn’t come down here, how else would I have heard Ms. Rhodes laying out her little scheme?”

Camille’s face was deathly pale. She reached for his arm.

“Julian, let me explain. This isn’t what you think. I was only joking…”

“Get away from me!”

Julian threw her hand off in disgust, his expression glacial.

“Now I finally understand. Your ex breaking into your house, the men following you, someone climbing through your window-you staged every one of those incidents yourself!”

“And I was stupid enough to believe you were Natalie’s best friend while you played me for a fool this entire time!”

“It I had known what you were really like, I never would have spoken to you at all!”

Camille’s lips trembled as she tried to defend herself, but the cold fury in his eyes silenced her.

“So now you’re blaming me?”

She abandoned the helpless act and screamed at him.

“Yes, I lied to you. So what?”

“Natalie never deserved you! She’s uptight and boring. I’m the only one who truly understands you, and I’m

the one who belongs by your side!”

“You understand me?”

Julian laughed, but the sound was more broken than amused.

“Who the hell do you think you are?”

“If you hadn’t been Natalie’s best friend, I never would have looked at you twice!”

“I should have told Natalie to cut you out of her life from the very beginning!”

Natalie had undergone the D&E alone at the hospital. Julian could only imagine how hopeless she must have

felt.

Then there was the night Camille lured him to her house. Natalie had gone home alone that night too.

She had walked all the way home by herself in the middle of a freezing winter night.

Pain crushed Julian’s chest until he could barely breathe.

He did not look at Camille again.

“Camille, I’m going to hold you accountable for everything you’ve done. I’ll make you pay for every last bit

of it, with interest.”

The color drained from Camille’s face. She ran after him, still trying to plead with him.

Julian was already in his car. He drove away without looking back.

Night had fallen over Savannah.

The doorbell suddenly rang.

I walked over and opened the door.

When I saw Julian, there was no surprise or hatred in my eyes. There was only a lifeless calm, as though I were looking at a stranger who meant nothing to me.

“So you came.

It was not a question. I had known he would.

“I’m not going back with you.”

Julian’s throat tightened. All the apologies he had prepared stuck there, and in the end, he managed to force

out only one sentence.

“Natalie, I was wrong.”

His eyes were red as he reached for me.

I stepped aside before he could touch me.
