She Invited Me to Her Wedding, Didn’t Know I Was Already Married to the Groom Chapter 04

That day, Charles was inspecting a warehouse when an electrical fire started.

My son saw him trapped inside and ran in without a second thought.

After that, my healthy boy’s leg was crushed. He’s had a limp ever since.

Charles cried for nights on end. He held us both and swore over and over that he’d work harder than ever, give us the best life possible, and make our son a billionaire many times over.

Now those words felt like the biggest joke in the world.

Emma was still gushing. “Savannah, God has been so good to you. He must really love you! I hope you two are happy forever.”

Savannah patted Emma’s hand. Her voice was certain. “Don’t worry, he’d die for me, and he’ll love me forever.”

I raised an eyebrow. “What did he do that was so dangerous?”

“Two years ago, we were meeting at his company’s warehouse. I lost an earring, only cost twenty-nine dollars, but I loved it.”

“He went back to find it for me. Then the warehouse caught fire. He almost died. Luckily, he made it out. And he found the cheap earring.”

My blood boiled. I clenched my fists so hard my nails bit into my palms.

I never knew my son lost his leg because of her.

Fifteen years of marriage, and I’d only just realized I was sleeping next to a monster.

The person I trusted most had stabbed me in the back.

“Oh my God, that’s so romantic. Like something out of a novel.” Someone sighed.

Everyone, including Savannah, dabbed at their eyes.

“Does his family treat you just as well?” someone else asked.

I looked at her, and she nodded confidently. “His parents are wonderful to me.”

My blood ran cold again. Charles’s mother had died four years ago.

His father had dementia and lived full-time in a care facility.

Savannah gently pushed up her lace sleeve, revealing a diamond tennis bracelet on her wrist.

“My mother-in-law gave me this,” she said, holding it up. “It might not look like much, but she said it’s a family heirloom. Passed down to the wife. From her, and then to me, and on and on.”

Looking closely at my own bracelet, I realized mine was fake.

Fifteen years ago, my mother-in-law had worked for a year as a housekeeper to save up and buy me that bracelet.

She truly loved me as if I were her daughter.

That’s why I’d bankrupted myself to save her when she got sick.

But Charles had swapped the real bracelet for a fake and given the real one to Savannah.

What a touching love story.

More gasps of envy erupted. Then a staff member called out, “Where’s the bride? The ceremony is about to start.”

Savannah lifted her gown. “Coming!” She smiled at us. “See you inside.”

I whispered to myself, “Yes. See you inside.”

The wedding was packed.

I saw a couple wearing “Groom’s Father” and “Groom’s Mother” badges.

A bitter smile crossed my lips.

Charles had hired actors to play his parents just to give Savannah the perfect wedding.

The ceremony began. Charles stood at the altar, composed, handsome, smiling with real joy.

I stood in a corner behind him, fury boiling in my chest.

I watched him walk eagerly toward the entrance, take Savannah’s hand, and lead her back to the altar.

They exchanged vows.

The officiant asked, “Savannah, do you take this man to be your lawfully wedded husband?”

She didn’t hesitate. “I do!”

I stepped onto the stage with a microphone, my voice sharp and loud. “Not so fast. You might want to check with me first.”

I locked eyes with Charles. “Isn’t that right, honey?”
