She Has Forty Eight Hours To Live After Her Fiance Admits His Affair Chapter 04

On the operating table, cold instruments twisted inside me.

I felt the life inside me ebbing away, and with it came a sick, shameful sense of relief.

Maybe he never should have come to this filthy world.

By evening, I dragged myself home.

Elias glanced at my pale face and handed me a glass of warm water,

“I was about to head to the campus to get you. Look, don’t take it out on Mia. If you hadn’t publicly shamed her and pushed her that far, she wouldn’t have been scared into saying those things.”

“Stop being angry. You’re going to be a mother — why bicker with a kid?”

“I already told Mia to file for divorce. Once the one-month cooling-off period is over, we’ll go get married.”

I turned my head, my face a blank mask, and stared at the wedding portrait on the wall.

Snatching the glass from his hand, I smashed it against the frame.

The glass shattered, shards slashing across Elias’s face in the picture.

Elias’s expression darkened.

In the next second, Mia walked out of my room, clutching her phone,

“Elias, Lila just lost her temper. I was so scared I typed the wrong message three times — it’s locked…”

“I can only reschedule in seven days.”

I remained indifferent, not even lifting an eyelid.

Elias studied my face, searching for any reaction. Finding none, a slow, cold smile spread across his lips.

“Forget the divorce. If Lila’s not in a hurry, why should we be?”

“Everyone already knows we’ve been together for ten years — she’s practically family.”

A flicker of pure hatred flashed in Mia’s eyes. Then, as if overcome, she shoved Elias aside, her eyes brimming with instant tears, and dropped to her knees before me with a soft thud.

“Lila, I didn’t mean it! I’m not lying — look, please—”

She held up her phone, pressing her lips close to my ear,

“Sis, is the baby still in there? Or did it go join Uncle?”

Her tone turned increasingly vicious,

“Why did you and your dad have to meddle and save me when my parents were already dead? If you were going to save me, you should have given me a home. Elias is perfect for me.”

“Oh, and the day Uncle showed signs of waking up from his coma — I went to ‘thank’ him. I even showed him the video of Elias and me together for the first time.”

“Who knew Uncle had such a fragile heart? He got so angry he bit through his oxygen tube and died.”

I bit the inside of my cheek until it hurt.

I couldn’t hold back anymore. Summoning all my strength, I raised my hand and slapped Mia hard across the face.

Elias kicked me violently. My fresh surgical wound split open, blood oozing out. I gasped in pain.

“Lila, what the hell is wrong with you!”

I laughed until blood and tears streamed down,

“It’s her… she killed my dad!”

Elias froze for a moment, about to speak.

Gavin pushed open the door, shielding Mia tightly, his eyes filled with tenderness,

“Lila, you’re a cop! Look at yourself — do you even deserve the title anymore?”

Meeting my bloodshot gaze, he sighed, weariness in the sound. “The media storm is out of control. Your father’s case is being reopened. We have to move him… relocate him from the Heroes’ Cemetery. For now.”

“As for you, the department’s giving you a disciplinary action. You’re suspended pending investigation. Mia’s emotionally unstable right now — it’s the perfect time for you to take care of her.”

“You’re her only family left. Stop hurting her.”

Elias snorted coldly,

“You inherited your father’s badge number. Hand over your uniform and service weapon. You can go out again when you learn to apologize.”

In my mind, the system blared a ten-second countdown.

Staring at the uncontrollable smirk on Mia’s lips, I laughed until blood and tears mixed.

I gently touched the gun, then stepped back toward the window, one step at a time.

Just as I was about to hand it over, I spun the barrel around and pressed it to my temple.

“What I owe her… a single apology isn’t enough.”

Elias instinctively reached out to me,

“Fingers splayed, pupils contracting sharply.”

I smiled and said,

“I’ll apologize with my life.”

Bang.

The gunshot shattered the window.

Elias’s bloodcurdling scream echoed,

“Lila!! No!!”
