She Carried His Child, So I Fled with His Twins Chapter 05

“You have your heir. My children don’t need a treacherous father. From this day forward, we go our separate ways. We will never meet again.”

Luca’s hand was shaking. The thin piece of paper felt as heavy as lead, crushing the air from his lungs.

“Impossible. This can’t be real.”

His eyes turned bloodshot. His gaze shot to the banquet hall doors, his voice raw. “Stella! Get out here! This can’t be real!”

The courier shrugged, suddenly cautious.

“After Ms. Stella gave me the box, she got into a car heading for the international airport. By now, her private jet has likely crossed the border.”

With that, he turned and walked through the crowd, not looking back.

[Luca’s POV]

I stared at the ultrasound in my hand for a long time, until the words began to blur.

The word “twins” was like two nails driven into my eyes, mocking me for the fool I was.

The whispers of the guests swirled around me, threatening to drown me.

“Impossible… Stella was so badly injured back then. The doctors said there was nothing they could do. How could she be pregnant?”

My hand wouldn’t stop shaking. I wanted to run out, to chase after the courier.

I wanted to grab him by the collar and force him to tell me which plane Stella had boarded, which country she was going to.

But I had only taken half a step when a piercing scream came from behind me.

“Luca! My heart… Am I not going to make it through the night?”

Bianca collapsed on the stage, her face deathly pale, her chest heaving violently. Her hand clutched the hem of my suit jacket, refusing to let go, her long nails snapping.

“Don’t leave me… Please don’t abandon me and this baby, who has your blood… I’m so scared…”

My mother was panicking, shoving aside the family bodyguards who were trying to administer first aid.

“Luca! What are you doing just standing there like an idiot? If anything happens to my grandson, that wicked woman will have another death to answer for!”

She pointed a hand laden with heirloom jewels at the door, her voice shrill.

“Stella is a traitor trying to destabilize the family. That ultrasound must be a fake she made to torment you on a day like today!”

“If she were really carrying your most legitimate heirs, why would she give up the honor of being the

Donna of this family? This is just one of her pathetic tricks to win you back!”

“She’s waiting for you to come crawling back to her.”

My father, the Don, was so furious his facial muscles twitched. He slammed his solid gold cane on the

stone floor of the church.

“Let her go! If she’s gone, she can stay gone forever! The Lupo family will do just fine without her!”

Looking at the weak, collapsed Bianca on the stage, then at the terrified, wailing infant in the cradle, my

feet felt nailed to the floor. I couldn’t move.

Bianca had risked death, had one foot in the grave on the operating table, just to give me this son.

And Stella had chosen this exact moment to throw everything into chaos with a piece of paper that could be a complete fabrication.

The choice was clear, or so I thought.

I clenched my jaw, suppressing the cold spreading through my chest.

“Get the car ready for the hospital! Tell every department head at the family hospital to be on standby

tonight!”

I didn’t run after her.

At that moment, I stubbornly believed that once I handled this mess, once Stella had suffered a bit and

cooled off, I would send my men to bring her back.

After all, we had loved each other for three years.

If she was truly pregnant, a pregnant woman, all alone… how far could she possibly go?

But I didn’t realize then that the moment I turned and scooped Bianca into my arms, I had severed the last thread that bound us together.

That night, Bianca was pulled back from the brink of death. But I couldn’t close my eyes for a second in the hospital corridor.

Like a madman, I dialed all of Stella’s encrypted numbers, over and over again.

But all I got was that same, maddeningly final message:

“The number you have dialed has been disconnected.”
