She Became The Perfect Wife So She Could Disappear Forever Chapter 08

“By the way, you were talking in your sleep when you were unconscious,” my mom suddenly said. “You kept mentioning ‘Angelica’ and ‘Justin’-who are they?”

I smiled softly. “Probably just a dream.”

“You also kept saying ‘Dominic’…” Mom frowned. “That name sounds familiar, doesn’t it?”

My heart skipped a beat. “Familiar?”

“Yeah, like I’ve heard it somewhere…” Mom thought for a moment, then suddenly slapped her thigh. “I got it! Yesterday, there was a news story about a businessman named that. Apparently something happened in his family.”

My fingers curled involuntarily. “What happened?”

“I’m not sure. It said something about his son destroying the house on New Year’s Eve, and he almost pushed his mistress-no, wait, I think it was his girlfriend-into the pool.” Mom shook her head. “Forget it. Rich people’s drama. None of our business.”

She tucked the blanket around me. “Get some rest, I’ll go make you some soup.”

After Mom left, I took out my phone and searched for Dominic.

The headlines that popped up were shocking.

[Dominic, CEO of Vance Group, rushed to the hospital on New Year’s Eve, suspected of a mental breakdown.]

[Only son of Dominic injured someone with a knife, taken away by the police for investigation.)

[Insider reveals: Female remains found in Vance Estate, possibly Dominic’s deceased ex-wife.]

My hands shook.

I clicked on the last article, and there was a blurry photo.

It showed the living room of the Vance Estate, with shredded photos scattered on the floor, broken picture frames, and a red sweater.

That sweater was identical to the one I was wearing.

My mother had knitted it.

In this world, she had knitted the same one for me.

But the next second, all the news articles suddenly disappeared, and my browsing history was wiped clean.

[Host, those events are from another world.]

The system’s voice echoed.

[You’ve returned home. The pain, betrayal, and suffering are no longer your concern.]

[Now, please begin your new life.]

I turned off my phone and leaned back against the headboard.

Yeah, I was home.

All the people and things I loved, hated, lived and died for, they stayed in another dimension.

From now on, I, Callie, would live only for myself.

The door to the room opened again, and Dr. Sterling entered, holding a bouquet of sunflowers.

“For you,” he said with a smile, placing the flowers on the bedside table. “To celebrate your new

life.”

I looked into his gentle eyes and suddenly asked, “Dr. Sterling, if we get married someday, would you betray me?”

He froze, then answered earnestly, “No. Never.”

“Why are you so sure?”

“Because…” He took my hand. “I love you, for who you are, not for anything else. So no matter what happens, I’ll never let go of your hand.”

I looked at him, tears falling again.

But this time, they were tears of happiness.

“I believe you,” I said.

The sound of firecrackers from the New Year rang out outside, and I could hear children laughing in the distance.

Everything felt just right.

I was back.

Truly, finally-home.
