She Asked Us to Give Up SATs for a Million-Dollar Promise Chapter 05

Several police officers stopped Stella, Ethan, and the others, their faces grim.

“Do you have any idea what you’re doing? This is an SAT testing center, and you actually came here to cause trouble!”

Only after seeing the police did Stella finally calm down, and fear belatedly crept in.

She instinctively hid behind Ethan and defended herself in a small voice.

“We were just playing a joke on our friend.”

“What kind of joke is this? Where are your parents? Call them and have them come here.”

The officer’s voice was sharp and full of anger.

“And are you students taking the SATs too? Why haven’t you gone inside?”

At that, the four of them immediately shook their heads.

Logan forced out a smile. “No, Officer. We’re not test-takers. We’re… we’re college freshmen.”

None of them dared admit they were supposed to be taking the SATs.

They were terrified the police would ruin their plan.

I stood in the third-floor hallway of the school building and watched as Stella and the other three continued negotiating with the officers.

From far away, Stella suddenly lifted her eyes and met my gaze.

My eyesight was good, and I clearly saw the hatred in her eyes in that instant.

I turned around and walked into the classroom.

When the bell rang, I steadied myself and focused on answering the questions.

I had done all these questions in my previous life and reviewed them afterward.

In other words, I was taking the SATs with a cheat-code advantage.

In my previous life, I had had a real shot at ranking in the top five statewide.

This time, I even had a real shot at becoming the top scorer in the state.

I made it into the testing center and got through that exam session.

After that scare, my parents both took time off work to take me to the testing center for the next exam session.

Of course, I didn’t tell them clearly that Ethan and the others had been behind it.

I couldn’t let Ethan’s family and the others find out.

What if they were forced to take the SATs after all? Wouldn’t they hate me all over again?

Maybe the police had genuinely scared them, because Stella and the others didn’t dare cause trouble again the next day.

Everything finally settled.

When I came out after finishing the last section, both my parents were waiting outside.

Mom wore her lucky dress, saying it meant I’d crush the test.

Dad, classic no-frills dad that he was, had even bought me a bouquet of flowers.

“Honey, you’re the best.”

I took the flowers and threw my arms around Mom, sobbing so hard I couldn’t speak.

I was my parents’ only child. They were always busy with work and rarely had time to be with me.

But I knew they loved me.

I couldn’t imagine what they must have gone through in my previous life when they learned I had died.

After we got home, Mom made a huge celebratory dinner.

Only after I was full did I pick up my phone to relax. That was when I saw the small group chat showing 99+ unread messages.

I scrolled up. The earlier messages were all attacking me.

[Evelyn, you seriously deserve to die.]

[You’re going to regret this. When we get rich, you can just watch us and die of jealousy!]

[Oh well, she was never meant to be rich. Just ignore her.]

After that came a flood of photos showing off their spending.

Stella had spent eight thousand dollars on a beauty spa membership.

Ethan had cashed out another twenty thousand dollars through online loans and bought Stella a gemstone necklace.

Logan had also taken out a loan to take Stella on a cruise vacation.

Mason had rented the big digital billboard on the busiest street in town to publicly confess his feelings to Stella.

My vision nearly went black.

These brain-dead idiots.

A classmate messaged me privately.

[What’s been going on with Ethan and the others lately? Someone said they saw them hanging out outside on the day of the SATs.]

I replied: [Yeah, that’s true. The four of them didn’t take the SATs.]

That classmate forwarded my message to the class group chat.

The class group chat instantly exploded.

A whole string of question marks flooded the screen.

Maybe because she thought the ten million dollars was about to arrive, Stella, who had always acted timid, weak, and pitiful in class, did a complete 180.

She replied: [That’s right. None of us took the SATs.]
