She Asked Us to Give Up SATs for a Million-Dollar Promise Chapter 02

I looked at them coldly, at those ugly faces twisted by greed.

A few words echoed in my mind: unbelievably stupid.

Stella had transferred to our school during junior year.

She was timid and introverted.

As class president, I had taken the initiative to bring her into my little circle with Ethan and the others so she could fit in.

Back then, the three boys I had grown up with all revolved around me.

But little by little, somehow, rumors started spreading that I was bullying Stella.

The three boys also grew more and more distant from me.

They barely invited me to their hangouts anymore.

I was hurt, but I wasn’t going to keep chasing after people who clearly didn’t want me around.

This hangout only happened because Ethan had dragged me here by force.

Now that all of them had signed, I was the only one who still hadn’t made a move.

Stella looked at me and pouted.

“Evelyn, you’re not signing? Are you trying to make yourself the exception again?”

Ethan immediately walked over and clamped his hand around my wrist.

“Evelyn, why are you always targeting Stella? Hurry up and sign. Don’t upset her.”

The other two boys stared at me with obvious displeasure.

Mason Shaw shoved me from behind. “Can you stop being so annoying all the time? No wonder everyone likes Stella better.”

Logan Hayes nodded along.

“Just hurry up already. Otherwise, you petty little thing, you’ll start saying we’re excluding you again.”

Although the four of us had grown up together, it was obvious that they all liked Stella more now.

In my previous life, I had genuinely been thinking about their futures. I had been afraid something would happen to them.

Who would have thought that my kindness would bring disaster down on me instead?

Seeing that I still refused to budge, Stella’s eyes quickly turned red.

“Evelyn, why are you doing this? I’m doing this for your own good. Why won’t you join us?”

“People always say that when one of us makes it, we don’t leave the other behind. Look, even though you’re always bullying me, I still thought of you when something good happened.”

When Ethan saw Stella like that, his heart practically melted, and his gaze turned even colder with displeasure when he looked at me.

His grip on my wrist suddenly tightened as he snapped, “Evelyn, you’re joining too.”

I pulled my hand back. “I refuse.”

I bit down hard on my lip.

I hated them so much.

In my previous life, when I saw Stella spiraling into obsession, I had been filled with anxiety and worry. I had been terrified that she would drag everyone down the wrong path.

I had argued with them until my throat went dry, tried to stop them, contacted our teacher, and called the police for help.

That was the only reason I had barely managed to stop that farce.

But what happened afterward?

After the truth came out, the whole school said Stella had cracked under the pressure of the SATs and become delusional, dreaming about getting rich overnight.

Stella had always been sensitive and fragile. She couldn’t withstand all those rumors, and in the end, she slit her wrists.

As for me, I suddenly became the culprit who had personally shattered her fantasy and driven her to death.

The three boys I had grown up with turned around and blamed me.

“Why did you have to make such a big deal out of it? Why did you kill Stella?”

“This is all because you’re vicious and couldn’t stand seeing Stella get something good.”

“Evelyn, give me back my money. Give me back my ten million dollars!”

Those three boys hated me to the bone.

On the day of Stella’s memorial, it was drizzling.

They tricked me onto the school rooftop, their eyes filled with venomous hatred, and every word they threw at me was soaked in poison. They asked why I couldn’t have let Stella have what she wanted, why I had insisted on destroying her.

I didn’t even have time to defend myself before they shoved me off by force, leaving my body shattered beyond recognition.

Even now, I could still clearly remember the weightless feeling of falling, the pain of my bones breaking, and the despair and resentment in the moments before death.

Now that I had been given another chance, I would not be stupid again.

I lowered my lashes, hiding the hatred and coldness in my eyes.

I would not explain myself anymore, and I would not try to change their stupid choices.

Whatever happened in the future, it would be the path they had chosen for themselves.
