She Asked For A Divorce The Day He Made Her A Public Enemy Chapter 08

The phone rang. I answered it right in front of Jason. 

“Something like that happened, and you never told me? Do I 

even matter to you?” 

The man on the other end was usually so composed that 

even the slightest crack in his emotions was impossible to 

miss. 

Jason froze for a moment, completely stunned. Then he 

finally asked, slowly, “…Are you dating someone?” 

Yes. I was with Adrian. 

It was the kind of relationship that came from both a sudden 

heartbeat and careful consideration. 

The happiness I couldn’t quite hide on my face made Jason’s 

expression darken a little. 

I went back to the call and explained, still smiling, “It’s 

nothing like that. I just didn’t think it was a big deal, so I 

didn’t rush to tell you.” 

“Not a big deal?” the man on the phone snapped. “You got beaten up like that and you think it’s nothing? Are you out of 

your mind?” 

Then his tone softened slightly. 

“Come upstairs. I’ve got something good for you.” 

I looked up toward the building and, through one of the lit windows, thought I caught a blurred silhouette of a face watching me. 

I ended the call, then ran inside with a smile. 

On the coffee table were several neatly arranged boxes of elegant pastries. 

Adrian pulled me down into his seat the moment I walked in, 

then immediately opened a folder and slid it toward me. 

“I wrote this script for you,” he said. “Are you really still not 

considering the lead role?” 

I looked at his serious expression and asked, “Why do you 

want me as the lead? You know I’ve never acted before. I 

only do voice work.” 

He leaned one hand on the desk and straightened up slowly. 

“Do you know,” he said, “when we were filming Empire of Light, I already wanted you as the female lead.” 

That was when I realized Adrian was technically my senior 

from college. 

Back when I was in the club, he had already heard my voice 

acting. 

He had been invited back to our alma mater, and happened to see me backstage during an event. 

That single encounter stayed with him for six years. 

After I left the industry, he even tried to find me, but eventually learned I was already married. 

And later came that viral scandal involving Verena. 

Somehow, through all the twists and turns, we still ended up back in each other’s orbit. 

“At the time, you had no experience and no confidence, so I didn’t push you,” he said quietly. 

“But Stella… your image, your delivery, even your eyes- everything about you is made for the screen in my eyes.” 

“I want to put you there myself. No casting couch, no pressure, no industry politics. Just you shining in what you 

do best, becoming your own leading lady.” 

“Okay,” I said. “I’ll do it.” 

Adrian reached out and gently pinched my cheek, then said 

very seriously, “Then… should I take care of the people who hurt you before?” 

Not long after, I learned exactly what he meant. 

One of his production teams tracked down Verena. 

Verena, unwilling to be blacklisted and still desperate for a comeback, latched onto a small supporting role they offered 

her. 

Of course, she didn’t hesitate for a second. 

Only after signing the contract did she realize the role’s main requirement: stunt–heavy fight scenes. 

During filming, she was forced to repeat the same action sequences over and over–over a dozen takes of group fight 

choreography gone wrong. 

She was slapped dozens of times, beaten repeatedly on set in the name of “performance,” until even one of her teeth 

loosened. 

Only afterward did Verena realize something was off. When she discovered I was involved in the dubbing for the project, she exploded in anger at the production team. 

They just smiled and told her, “What’s unfair about it? It’s just 

karma coming back around.” 

In the end, she was removed from the project entirely, and 

even her remaining scenes were cut. 

As for me, after starring in my first leading role, the response 

was overwhelming. 

And my engagement to Adrian quietly moved forward as 

well. 

In the end, love wasn’t just emotion. 

It was what made everything fall into place.
