She Asked For A Divorce The Day He Made Her A Public Enemy Chapter 04

She Asked For A Divorce The Day He Made Her A Public Enemy Chapter 04

In three days, I found a place and moved out as quickly as

couldquietly, while Jason was busy with work

I needed a job. I needed to support myself

But after the whole trending scandal, thanks to Jason, I’d

become someone with a reputation no one wanted to touch

The industry had practically blacklisted me

On top of that, my résumé was nearly empty. Every

application I sent out vanished without a trace

Finally, I got an interview

I arrived early at the café we’d agreed on

But instead of the interviewerVerena showed up

She had five or six girls with her. The moment they saw me

they flooded into my booth, surrounding me like predators

closing in

One of them smirked. Well, look who it is. Why does she

look so familiar?”

Isn’t this Jason Miller’s creepy stalker fan?another sneered. You’ve got some nerve going after Verena without even

knowing your place.”

Verena’s his official girlfriend, someone else added

mockingly. Who do you think you are? Bit off more than you

can chew, huh?”

Tell you what, one of them said, folding her arms. Get on your knees and apologize to Verena, and maybe she’ll hook

you up with a job.”

I lifted my gaze to Verena, whose face was full of smug

confidence, almost arrogant

I lowered my eyes again, calm

I don’t know you, Ms. Dawson. We’ve never crossed paths,I said evenly. So I’m honestly surprised you’d believe those malicious rumors so easily

What surprises me moreis how different you are in real

life compared to the image you show on screen.”

Aren’t you worried your fans might find out?”

Before I could finish, someone yanked my hair

A sharp slap followed, ringing in my ears

Verena flexed her hand and stepped closer, her voice low and venomous

You’re still talking big when you’re about to get crushed?”

She tilted her head slightly, smiling

As Jason’s girlfriend, I didn’t even need to bother with someone like you.”

But since you don’t know your placedon’t blame me for what happens next.”

She stepped back, while the others closed in

One girl with bleached hair lunged at me, but I reacted first

driving my foot into her stomach

For a second, she doubled over

Then someone grabbed my hair again

Another slap

Fighting oneonone might’ve been fair

But there were too many of themand they weren’t holding

back

The blows came fast, one after another. Slaps, kicks

couldn’t even defend myself

You think you can fight back?one of them shouted. Go on

fight back!”

Struggling, I forced my hand into my bag and pulled out my phone, trying to call the police

Verena knocked it out of my hand and kicked it into the

corner

She looked down at me, her smile sharp and cruel

Calling the cops?she said softly. Even if you do, it won’t matter. My boyfriend will take care of everything.”

Then she smiled againslow, deliberate

The next thing I knew, someone grabbed an empty bottle

and smashed it over my head

As my vision blurred and darkness crept in, I vaguely heard

Verena lean close to my ear

You really think I didn’t know who you are? I’ve known you

for a long time.”

But so what if you’re married to him?”

In his heartI still matter more.”

When I woke up, I was in a hospital bed, my whole body

aching

The nurse told me it was mostly superficialjust a cut on my

head. No concussion, thankfully. Nothing too serious

Then she reminded me to settle the bill

I picked up my phone to pay, only to find my card had been

frozen

I was about to call Jason, but he called first

Hello,he said flatly. You wanted a divorce, right? I’m at the

café by my office. Come here.”

Same cold tone. Like I owed him something

But since he was finally willing to talk about divorce, I had to

take the opportunity

I left my documents with the hospital as collateral, grabbed

a ride, and headed over

The private room smelled heavily of smoke

Jason saw me walk in and crushed out his cigarette in

crystal ashtray

The moment I sat down, he spoke, his tone already edged

with irritation

Stella, I told you I’d consider going public.”

Why couldn’t you just wait?”

Did you really have to rush and tell Verena about us?”

I froze for a second, then I understood

Knowing Verena, I could almost hear exactly what she’d said

to him

Something along the lines of-Jason, I’m so sorry! My friends

thought she was some obsessed stalker fan and got carried

away!”

I had no idea she was your wife!”

This is my fault. Please don’t blame themI’ll take

responsibility for it!”

And of course, Jason believed her. Forgave her

And conveniently focused on my supposed wrongdoing-

convinced that I had deliberately exposed our relationship

At this point, there was no point wasting any more breath

explaining

If anything, it only confirmed what I had already told Jason-

what I had already realized about this marriage

Jason, you’re overthinking it,I said calmly. My goal now is divorce. Not going public.”

He let out a cold laugh. If I hadn’t brought up divorce, you wouldn’t even have come to see me, right?”

You really want out that badly?”

What if you walk away with nothing? Would you still agree?”

I looked at him quietly, saying nothing

He stared back just as stubbornly, jaw tightlike he was making some kind of major decision

Then he pulled out the divorce agreement

If you’re set on this, there’s no point in me trying to stop you,he said

Take a look. See if there’s anything you’re not satisfied with.”

I opened the document slowly

To be honest, I had married into the Miller family with nothing. Their wealth had never been mine to begin with

Three years of marriage. A handful of moments that could even be called a married life

Even if I left with nothing, it wouldn’t feel like a loss

After allI was still young

But Jason hadn’t written that into the agreement

He was giving me half of everything he’d earned during the marriage

Everything already under my name stayed mine

I knew he wasn’t stingy. He had never treated me poorly when it came to money

So I asked, Was the walk away with nothingidea Verena’s?”

The way his eyes flickered away gave him away

Then he glanced at the bruises on my face, and for once, his tone softenedalmost gently

Your injuries aren’t that serious. Just let it go.”

As long as you agree not to pursue this, I’ll transfer an extra

five million dollars to your account in three months.”

I almost laughed

Then I shook my head lightly and signed the agreement without hesitation

Just like that, I put an end to this marriage.
