Separated Rooms for Three Years, He Panicked After I Moved Out Chapter 28

He gave a bitter smile.

“She found pictures of you on my phone.”

I frowned.

“Why do you have pictures of me?”

“I don’t know.”

“I guess I just wanted to hold on to something.”

“For the three years we were married, I never looked at your photos. Because you were always just… there. At home. I knew you were there every day.”

“Even if we barely spoke, you were a constant.”

“After you left, the house felt so empty. That’s when I realized that over those three years, I had gotten used to having you by my side.”

“So used to it that I never imagined you would actually leave.”

“So used to it that I forgot to cherish you.”

I set down my coffee cup and looked at him.

“Briar, do you know what you sound like to me right now?”

“What?”

“Like a child with a toy. He ignores it, throws it in a corner. Then, when someone else takes it away, he starts crying that he wants it back.”

“You don’t really want the toy. You’re just not used to it being gone.”

He froze. His lips moved, but no words came out.

I stood and picked up my bag.

“Thanks for the coffee.”

“Don’t come looking for me again.”
