Separated Rooms for Three Years, He Panicked After I Moved Out Chapter 09

He set down his coffee cup and looked at me, pausing for a second.

“Marceline, do you have any regrets about the last three years?”

The question was so abrupt it caught me off guard.

I paused, giving it serious thought.

“I wouldn’t call it regret.”

“It just feels… like a waste.”

His fingers tapped lightly on the tabletop. It was a small, nervous gesture, but I saw it.

“A waste.”

He repeated my words.

“You think being married to me was a waste of time?”

“What else would you call it?” I asked. “Do you think there’s a single thing about the last three years worth remembering?”

He said nothing.

“In three years of marriage, how many meals did we have together? How many nights did you come home? Do you even know what I like to eat? Do you remember my birthday?”

I set down my own coffee cup and met his gaze.

“You don’t know any of it. Because for the past three years, every bit of your attention has been on Chloe.”

His expression finally shifted. His brows knit together, his lips thinning into a hard line.

“You knew what this was when you agreed to it,” he said, his voice low.

“I know.”

I nodded.

“So I’ve never blamed you. Like I said, it was a transaction. Now the deal is done, and we can go our separate ways.”

I got up from my chair, walked to the coffee table, and picked up the envelope. I opened it to check.

On the signature line of the final page, the name Briar Pierce was written in clear, decisive strokes.

He had signed.

And just like that, I felt a weight lift. Three years of my life were finally, officially over.
