Separated Rooms for Three Years, He Panicked After I Moved Out Chapter 07

His eyes were strange, as if he were seeing me for the first time.

“You’ve thought this through?”

“Completely.”

He set the papers on the coffee table, unbuttoned his coat, and sat down on the sofa.

“Fine.”

He said it without a moment’s hesitation.

Beside him, Chloe took a quiet breath, lowering her head to hide the smile tugging at her lips.

I looked at her and felt nothing at all.

“Then when will you sign?” I asked.

Briar leaned back into the sofa and pressed his fingers to his temples.

“Tomorrow. I’ve been drinking. I’m not signing anything tonight.”

“Okay.”

I turned to go upstairs, but he called out behind me.

“Marceline.”

I stopped but didn’t turn around.

“Where will you live after you move out?”

“I’ve already rented an apartment.”

It was quiet behind me for a few seconds.

“If you can’t move in right away, you can stay in the guest room for a while.”

He said it so casually, as if he were discussing a minor inconvenience.

I turned around and looked at him.

He sat on the sofa, still in his overcoat, his tie askew, exhaustion etched on his face.
