Second Lead in My Own Love Story Chapter 06

Second Lead in My Own Love Story Chapter 06

But now, all Luke felt was annoyance.

His mind was filled with the icy look in my eyes when I left-and that one sentence: Let’s get a divorce.

Just as he was about to refuse coldly, another message popped up in the high school class group chat.

It was from me.

Under the photo that had just set the whole group on fire, I calmly replied: [Congratulations.]

No anger. No interrogation. Not even a hint of emotion.

It read like a polite blessing from a stranger watching two unrelated people from a distance.

Luke stared at the message. Something in his chest clenched violently, as if an invisible hand had

reached in and squeezed his heart.

The pain made it hard to breathe.

Suddenly, memories came flooding back, unstoppable.

He remembered freshman year of high school-me with a ponytail, cheeks flushed, slipping breakfast

milk into his desk.

He had a weak stomach. Every morning, I showed up half an hour early just to wait in line at the cafeteria

for a bowl of warm soup for him.

He remembered our first time holding hands, on the tree-lined path behind the school. His palm was

drenched in sweat, he was so nervous he could barely get a sentence out.

He remembered senior year, when I stayed up late with him to study for exams and ended up with dark circles under my eyes.

He called me an idiot for doing that, but secretly filled my desk with coffee and snacks to keep me awake.

In college, we did long distance. We talked on the phone for over an hour every day.

Train tickets piled up like a thick stack of proof-proof of a youth spent racing toward each other.

After graduation, when he was struggling to get his business off the ground, I gave him all my savings without a second thought.

During the company’s toughest month, I ate stale bread with him and lived in a rental with no heating, never complaining once.

On our wedding day, he held my hand and said, “Avery, thank you for getting through all the hard times with me. From now on, I’m going to make you the happiest woman in the world.”

Those sweet, ordinary days-full of warmth and companionship-flashed through his mind like scenes

from a movie.

He had always believed I would be there. That no matter what he did, as long as he turned around, I would still be waiting with open arms and a gentle smile.

He had gotten used to my giving, tolerance, and concessions. And so he acted without restraint.

He assumed that for the sake of so-called “friends,” it was fine if I got hurt a little. Until now. Until I calmly and decisively walked out of his world. Only now did he finally realize what he had lost.

He had lost the girl who once looked at him with nothing but love in her eyes.

He had lost the woman who had stood by him through hardship and loved him completely, without

reservation, for ten whole years.

He truly regretted it.

The next morning, I arrived at the law firm right on time.

Cassidy Pickett was a well-known divorce lawyer-efficient, sharp, and highly professional.

We were in the middle of discussing asset division and custody arrangements-Luke and I shared a dog together-when Cassidy’s phone suddenly started ringing off the hook.

She glanced at the screen, and her expression shifted in a strange, subtle way.

Looking back and forth between me and her phone, she finally handed it over.

“Miss Anderson, could you take a look… is this your husband?”

Confused, I took the phone.

On the screen was a local influencer’s social media page.

The top trending hashtag read:

#FromHighSchoolSweetheartsToSoulmates Valedictorian MarriesClassBeauty

I clicked on it.

At the top was a high-definition video.

It was from last night’s party-Luke and Sarah doing their cross-arm toast.

The person who posted it had clearly put some work into it: a carefully chosen angle, romantic background music, and a warm filter that made the whole scene look intimate and affectionate.
