I sent a message to my lawyer and set up a meeting at the law firm for ten the next morning to go over

the divorce details.

After getting all of that done, I felt lighter than I ever had before.

Meanwhile, Luke was still sitting frozen in what used to be our home.

He stared at the half-empty box of odds and ends I hadn’t had time to pack, at the mug I used every day,

at the throw pillow I’d left on the couch.

Over and over, my resolute expression as I walked away replayed in his mind.

A crushing wave of panic washed over him.

He knew that this time, I wasn’t just angry.

No. Not angry.

Disappointed. Completely and utterly done with him.

He took out his phone, wanting to call me, beg me to come back, tell me he was wrong.

Just then, the screen lit up with a notification from our high school class group chat.

It was Sarah.

She had posted a photo.

In the picture, she was sitting in the passenger seat, smiling at the camera and flashing a peace sign.

But the most eye-catching part was her other hand, overlapping with a large, well-defined hand resting on the steering wheel.

Thanks to the carefully angled shot, it looked like the two of them were intimately holding hands.

I recognized that hand instantly.

It was Luke’s.

Under the photo, Sarah added an ambiguous caption: [After waiting ten years, I finally got my happy ending. Thank you for always being here.]

The class group chat, which had finally calmed down, exploded all over again in an instant.

[Holy crap! Is this an official announcement?]

[I knew it! Luke’s heart still belongs to Sarah and only Sarah!]

[Congrats! True love finally finds its way!]

The former classmates flooded the chat with blessings, tagging the two of them over and over, jokingly asking when they’d get invited to the wedding.

Underneath the messages, Sarah replied shyly with a face-covering emoji.

She didn’t deny a thing.

The moment Luke saw the photo, his mind went blank with a loud buzz.

His first reaction wasn’t anger. It was panic.

He didn’t want me to see the photo.

He immediately exited the group chat and called Sarah.

The second she picked up, he suppressed his anger and said coldly, “Sarah, delete the photo.”

On the other end, she pretended to be confused.

“What photo? Luke, what’s wrong?”

“Stop playing dumb.” Frustration crept into his voice. “The photo in the group chat. Take it down right now.”

Sarah spoke in a hurt tone.

“Why? I was just sharing a moment from my life. We’re all old classmates. It’s just a harmless joke.”

“It’s not harmless!”

Luke finally lost it, his voice rising sharply.

“I’m married! Avery is my wife! I don’t want her getting the wrong idea about this.”

The other end of the line went silent. After a long pause, Sarah quietly hung up.

Luke had just let out a breath of relief, thinking the situation was handled.

Some time later, his phone started blowing up with calls.

The caller was Tina, Sarah’s best friend.

The moment he answered, she unleashed a furious tirade, calling Luke a scumbag who played with women’s feelings.

“Luke, you’re unbelievable! What exactly do you take Sarah for? You gave her hope and then ripped it away!”

“She’s cried over you for ten whole years! Tonight she drank herself sick-she’s practically puking her guts out! Are you happy now? I’m telling you, if anything happens to Sarah, I’ll never forgive you!”

Through the phone, he could vaguely hear Sarah’s drunken sobs.

She called out Luke’s name, slurring incoherent things, dropping hints for him to come take care of her

If this had happened before, the moment Luke heard Sarah crying, he would’ve softened immediately He would’ve felt terrible for her and dropped everything to go comfort her.
