Scammed at My Sister’s Restaurant Chapter 04

Chapter 4 Suspect

The air itself froze. Not a soul made a sound. Only the echoes of my shoe tapping against the ground

remained.

Step by step, I approached the couple in the center. The one locked in an embrace. The look on Selina’s

face was priceless.

First, there was shock, and then unshakeable horror, and then her face quickly turned whiter than paper. She let go of Harold without even thinking. As she tried to stand, she saw the pained look on Harold’s

face.

Her terror turned into hesitation.

In the end, she masked her fear with a headstrong mask. She remained seated, her eyes nailed on me, as if that was enough to keep her panic down.

The moment Harold saw him, his pupils shrank, but then he realized we were on Selina’s turf, and they

had numbers on their side.

That gave him the courage to lie in Selina’s arms and wail, “Selina, that’s him! That’s the guy!”

He looked at me with venom and smugness in his eyes, as if he was challenging me to do something to

him.

He was saying, ‘See? She takes my side.’

I ignored the clown. My eyes were on my sister. “Answer my question, Selina. You wanted me to apologize to your boyfriend. Here I am.”

Selina gulped, and her lips shivered, but she could not say a word.

She was scared of me. Ever since we were kids, that fear had been planted in her mind. She knew I was

the linchpin of this family.

Her friends exchanged confused looks. They had no idea what was going on.

One of the trust-fund babies stepped up. A guy with yellow hair. He probably wanted to show off to Selina.

“Who the hell are you? What’s with your attitude? Say sorry to Harold right now, or-”

He never finished that sentence.

My bodyguards stepped ahead and stood in front of me like insurmountable walls. The air they gave off shut the guy up right away.

I went around the bodyguards and looked at the seated Selina. “I see you’re not going to explain yourself.”

Finally, Selina mustered enough courage. She stood up, rigid and stiff, then she pulled me aside. She hissed, “What are you doing, Zacharias? You’re embarrassing me in front of my friends! Harold didn’t

mean to! He’s brutally honest, but you can let it slide!”

There was a quiet plea in her voice, and there was also impatience.

I looked at her. This girl was a joke. Let it slide? After he had his men beat me up and extorted 150 grand

from me?

“Selina Griselda Grayheim,” I said. That was her full name. “If that is your idea of a joke, you’ll need to

redo it from scratch.”

“I…” Not another word came out of her mouth. Her eyes darted around.

At the same time, sirens blared in the distance. Moments later, they were close enough to scream. Police

sirens.

The sounds pierced the fake festive air in the villa, and everyone froze.

A group of uniformed officers came in. They looked stern and official. The leader scanned the whole place, and then his eyes landed on me. “Did you call the cops, Mr. Grayheim?”

I nodded. “Yes.”

The officer took out an arrest warrant and turned to Harold. “Harold Stern, you’re suspected of aggravated assault and extortion. A hefty sum. You are now under arrest. We will be taking you in.”
