Reincarnation Failed, I Became A Cat To Save The True Heiress Chapter 09

Three months later.

The casts came off, and I walked out of that clinic on my own four paws.

The day I came home to the family estate, Alistair had a red carpet rolled out. Two lines of his men in sunglasses dipped their heads in perfect unison.

“Welcome home, Marmalade!”

I strutted down that carpet like it had been put there for me. Head up. Tail high.

Pure king energy.

Serena had healed.

What happened in that delivery room changed her. The trusting, sheltered girl who always saw the best in people was gone.

She stepped into the family empire, took control of three subsidiaries, and ran them with a ruthlessness no one had seen coming.

Every competitor who’d circled during the chaos, sensing weakness, she and Alistair dismantled them together.

But at home, she was just Stella’s mother.

“Marmalade, get over here. This tuna was flown in this morning.”

She was holding a solid-gold cat bowl, grinning at me like this was completely normal.

I didn’t need to be asked twice. I buried my face in it.

Fresh, buttery, melt-on-your-tongue perfection. This was the life.

Stella was three months old now.

She watched me from her stroller, big eyes fixed on every bite.

[Kitty’s food looks so, so yummy! I want some too!]

I threw her a look and pulled the bowl closer with my paw.

[You’re three months old. Go drink your milk, kid.]

Stella’s lip wobbled for half a second before she bounced right back.

[That’s okay! When I grow up, I’ll buy Kitty all the fish!]

I licked my paw, satisfied.

This kid had potential.

Alistair walked in and tossed his jacket over a chair.

He scooped Stella out of the stroller like he’d been doing it forever, bouncing her until she

squealed.

“You’re home early.” Serena smiled.

He nodded, and something cold crossed his face.

“Stopped by the prison today. Checked in on our old friends.”

Serena’s knife stilled over the cutting board.

“And?”

The corner of Alistair’s mouth curled.

“Julian made enemies with the wrong people in there. He’s getting the worst of it every day. Can barely keep food down.”

“I hear Chloe’s not doing much better. She’s losing it, screams at the walls all day, telling anyone who’ll listen that she’s the real heiress.”

“They’ll rot in there. Slowly.”

Serena didn’t flinch.

“Good. Don’t bring them up again. I don’t even want their names in this house.”

I stretched out on the carpet and rolled onto my back.

Play stupid games, win stupid prizes.

The TV was on. A local news segment caught my attention.

“Authorities in a rural community have removed a young girl from a dangerous home. The child had reportedly endured prolonged mistreatment by her foster family. She is now in protective

custody.”

The footage was blurred, but I recognized the house behind the pixelation instantly.

Julian’s cousin’s place.

So the imposter’s new life had gone exactly as badly as expected.

But what did any of that have to do with me?

I was just a big fat orange cat.
