Reborn to Marry the Right Mafia Brother Chapter 02

Reborn to Marry the Right Mafia Brother Chapter 02

Simone and I have our weddings on the same day.

It is the same day as in my previous life.

Back then, Lucien doesn’t attend the wedding.

Instead, Dante personally comes to pick Simone up early in the morning, and everyone praises him for being far more attentive than Lucien, more like the kind of husband a woman would want.

This time, sure enough, nothing changes.

Dante arrives at the Falcone Family penthouse in a perfectly tailored black suit to pick Simone up himself.

As she passes me, Simone lifts her chin smugly.

“Annette, why hasn’t Lucien come to pick you up?”

I simply smile.

“Don’t worry about me, Simone. You’ve got enough problems of your own.”

Her smile immediately stiffens.

[Go ahead and laugh. Let’s see if you can still smile when Lucien starts making your life miserable.]

She snorts to herself and leaves with Dante on her arm.

But it is still too early to say any of that.

This time, no one knows who will have the last laugh.

Just like in my previous life, Lucien’s absence from the wedding quickly becomes the subject of gossip.

The guests whisper among themselves, their eyes constantly drifting toward me.

Simone is clearly enjoying every second of it.

She can’t wait to wrap her arms around Dante’s neck.

“I love you, Dante.”

Then she leans forward and kisses him.

When they pull apart, she deliberately looks at me, her eyes filled with provocation.

Of course, I know she is waiting for me to be embarrassed.

But I am not going to be like her in my previous life, storming out of my own wedding over a few whispers and rumors.

That would only make everyone think you are not capable of carrying the Falcone Family name.

In my previous life, Simone makes a scene in public, and people begin whispering that she isn’t composed enough to become the future Donna of the Falcone Family.

After the wedding, Madre Audrey never truly thinks highly of her because of it.

I pick up the microphone and smile generously at the guests.

“Don Falcone has an extremely important matter that requires his personal attention, so unfortunately, he wasn’t able to make it back in time today.”

“Later, during the toast, I’ll raise a glass on behalf of my husband.”

“I hope you’ll forgive his absence.”

As soon as I finish speaking, the whispers in the ballroom gradually die down.

Madre Audrey, sitting at the head table, looks at me, and there is clearly more approval in her eyes.

The Falcone Family values appearances above all else.

No matter how many dirty deals they make behind closed doors, no matter how many bloodstained secrets they hide, they must always maintain the dignity and authority of the family in front of outsiders.

And as the Don’s wife, I cannot afford to panic in a situation like this.

Simone clearly notices the look in Madre Audrey’s eyes, and her expression immediately darkens.

[Disgusting. During the toast, I’ll make sure you humiliate yourself in front of everyone.]

I almost laugh.

Being able to hear other people’s thoughts really is convenient.

At least when someone is planning to set you up, you are always one step ahead of them.

When the toast begins, I calmly lift the hem of my gown and walk toward Madre Audrey.

Simone stands not far away, staring at me.

I hear her counting silently in her head.

[One.]

[Two.]

[Three.]

Just as she is about to step on my dress, I suddenly pull the hem away.

Simone misses her footing and stumbles forward in an embarrassing heap, spilling the champagne in her hand all over herself.

“Simone!”

Dante immediately rushes over to help her.

But at the same time, I hear his thoughts.

[Idiot.]

The room falls silent.

Everyone turns to look in our direction.

Madre Audrey’s expression darkens completely.

“Look at yourself.”

Her voice is cold.

“Do you have even the slightest idea what a woman of the Falcone Family is supposed to look like?”

Simone’s face turns pale.

“I’m sorry, Madre Audrey… I didn’t mean to.”

She apologizes out loud, but I can feel how unwilling she is to accept it.

If I were her, after being given another chance at life, I would never keep making the same mistakes. Living quietly and peacefully would be far better than losing my life all over again.

But since she refuses to let me live in peace, I have no reason to keep swallowing everything in silence.

Because of the scene Simone causes, the wedding ends rather abruptly.

From beginning to end, Madre Audrey doesn’t give her another pleasant look.

But when she looks at me, her expression is noticeably softer. Before leaving, she even takes my hand.

“Annette, I’ll make sure Lucien comes back to spend tonight with you.”

She pats the back of my hand.

“You’ve been wronged today. He’ll make it up to you.”

Sure enough, Lucien really does come back that night.

The moment the door opens, I see him walking inside while loosening his tie.

There is obvious exhaustion on his face, as if he has just finished a long negotiation.

I immediately walk over to him.

“Lucien, you must be tired. Give me your coat.”

He only glances at me before handing me his suit jacket without saying a word.

In my previous life, I hear from the servants that Lucien doesn’t come home at all on his wedding night.

Simone spends the night alone in an empty room and becomes the laughingstock of the entire family by the next morning.

She goes to Madre Audrey to complain, only to be scolded instead.

Madre Audrey tells her only one thing.

“If you can’t keep your husband interested, don’t come crying to me about it.”

After Lucien goes to take a shower, I straighten the bed and prepare a glass of whiskey with ice.

Then I pick up a pillow and walk toward the couch.

Tonight, I plan to sleep there.

When Lucien comes out of the bathroom, he sees me making up the couch.

He pauses, and a flicker of surprise crosses his eyes.

I immediately explain, “You take the bed. I’ll sleep here.”

Lucien narrows his eyes slightly, “Annette, what exactly are you trying to pull?”

He is wearing a dark robe, the collar slightly open, his skin still glistening with moisture.

I quickly look away, “I’m not trying to pull anything.”

“There’s no love between us. Sleeping in the same bed would make both of us uncomfortable.”

I pause and look at him.

“So, if you’re willing…”

“I’d like to discuss a deal with you.”
