Reborn, I Stopped Begging for Love, Then They Cried With Regret Chapter 06

Tessa walked over, grabbed a dish towel from the counter, and folded it over the hot handles of the pot,

“Don’t you know how to use oven mitts?”

Mom froze, looking completely at a loss.

“I… I forgot. I was in a hurry.”

Tessa picked up the pot and headed toward the dining room.

“Go get a bowl. She’s probably hungry.”

Mom’s eyes grew moist. She quickly turned to the cabinet for a bowl.

They came into my room one after the other.

Tessa set the pot on the tray table beside my bed.

“Drink it while it’s hot. She’s been simmering it all afternoon. It turned out just right.”

Mom filled a bowl and handed it to me without quite meeting my eyes.

“Careful. It’s hot.”

I took it, feeling the warmth of the ceramic bowl against my hands.

“Thank you.”

Tessa pulled over a chair and sat down.

“Next time, don’t carry something that hot yourself. We have staff for that.”

Mom rubbed her hands together awkwardly.

“I just thought I’d feel better making it myself.”

Tessa said nothing. She simply pushed the tissue box a little closer to Mom.

At dinner, the atmosphere around the table was noticeably easier than before.

Evan slid a platter of lightly seasoned baked white fish toward Mom.

“It’s boneless. Try some.”

Mom looked almost startled by the gesture. She took a piece, her hand trembling slightly.

“Thank you, Evan.”

Grant watched them, the corners of his mouth lifting.

“It’s been a long time since this house felt this warni.”

I quietly drank my soup and stayed out of the conversation.

Evan turned to me.

“It’s the weekend tomorrow. Want to get out for a bit? Somewhere nearby?”

My hand stilled, the spoon still in my grip.

“No. I can’t go very far, and I get tired easily.”

Evan looked away, then served me a piece of fish.

“Then we can sit out in the backyard for a while. I’ll bring a lounge chair out.”

I looked down at the fish on my plate.

“Okay.”

Mom watched from the side, and the tension slowly left her shoulders.

The next afternoon, a security guard escorted a man to the front gate.

Dad stood outside, rubbing his hands and craning his neck to peer inside.

Grant sat on the living room couch, watching the security feed on a wall-mounted monitor.

“Let him in.”

Dad was brought into the living room and sat stiffly on the couch, his eyes roaming around the

room.

The moment he saw Grant, he put on a fawning smile.

“Mr. Mercer, I came because I have a business proposition for

you.

Grant raised his coffee mug and blew across the surface.

“Go on.”

Dad leaned closer and lowered his voice.

“I know which stocks are going to skyrocket over the next few years, and which parcels of land are going to be developed.”

“Give me two million dollars, and I’ll tell you everything. You’ll make a fortune.”

Grant set his mug down with a soft click.

“Do you think two million dollars means anything to me, or that I need your so-called tips?”

Dad’s smile stiffened.

“Mr. Mercer, you can’t lose on this. At least think about it.”

Grant leaned back against the couch, his gaze cold.

“I only invest in things I can verify. I’m not interested in your stories.”

Dad shot to his feet.

“Mr. Mercer, I’m telling the truth!”

“I died once and came back. I remember my previous life!”

He pointed upstairs.

“Elise remembers her previous life too. Call her down and ask her yourself!”
