Quit the Mafia Crown, Took the Healer Scalpel Chapter 12

Quit the Mafia Crown, Took the Healer Scalpel Chapter 12

Dante turned New York upside down, but Lina had vanished like smoke.

He wrecked office after office while his men stood silent, none able to give him the news he wanted.

He could command a hundred-billion-dollar underground empire, but he couldn’t hold on to a woman who

wanted to leave him.

It wasn’t until someone reminded him that he remembered the person Lina cared about most in this life: her

grandmother.

But the address he tracked down was a cemetery.

He drove there. The photo on the headstone was gentle and peaceful, the date of death clear.

So Lina’s only family had been gone for a while.

And he had never asked, had never known.

Dante knelt in front of the grave all night.

Autumn rain soaked his tailored suit, mud clinging to his cuffs.

Once so proud and lofty, he was a wreck now.

He wanted to beg for forgiveness, but he couldn’t even find the person to apologize to.

Near dawn, Iris came looking for him.

She was wearing the white dress Lina had loved, her voice soft and gentle.

“Don, the wind is high. I came to bring you home. I’ll be a better Donna than Lina.”

Dante looked up, his eyes cold as ice.

“You don’t deserve to say her name.”

Iris’s face went pale.

“What do I have that’s worse than Lina? I’m younger, more obedient, and I love you more.”

“A few days of spoiling and you forget your place. I haven’t even dealt with your little tricks.”

Dante’s tone was flat, each word a knife.

“A stand-in is a stand-in. You could never hold a candle to Lina.”

Iris completely broke down.

She laughed through her tears, her voice shrill.

“You think Lina left easily? She called you that hurricane night; I answered, and made sure she heard

everything.”

“You wanted to drive her back into your arms, but I ruined it. Dante, you will never have her again.”

Dante stood frozen.

In that moment, crushing regret knocked the air out of him.

So he had almost gotten what he wanted.

Lina, in Brooklyn, on that hurricane night, at her most vulnerable and helpless, had thought of calling him for

help.

But he had been tangled up with Iris.

It was all destroyed.

Destroyed by this woman standing in front of him.

Dante stood up, no warmth in his eyes.

“You wanted to marry into a powerful family, didn’t you? I’ll give it to you.”

He made one call and handed Iris over to the most notorious, depraved young heir in their circle.

Iris’s screams for help were shut behind the car door, and she was never heard from again.

With Iris dealt with, Dante turned all his fury on the playboys from the club that night.

He poured money into destroying their businesses, cutting off their laundering, buying their territory, driving

them to ruin.

The East Coast underworld shook, and everyone was afraid.

Three months passed, and Dante had wasted away, his eyes bloodshot.

Some said Dante had gone mad, turning himself into the East Coast’s public enemy over a woman.

Dante didn’t care.

He did only one thing every day: search for her.

Three months later, Dante’s mother, Mrs. Conti, came to find him.

“Lina is in Zurich, at a medical school. She asked me to speed up the divorce before she left.”

Mrs. Conti looked at Dante’s gaunt face and sighed.

“I wasn’t going to tell you. But look at you now. I think you should know.”

Europe.

He had searched for three months, hated for three months, regretted for three months.

Lina was across the ocean, starting her life over, leaving him behind in the past.

Dante stood up, without a moment’s hesitation.

Have the jet ready. I’m going to Europe.

This time, he would not let go.
