Quit the Mafia Crown, Took the Healer Scalpel Chapter 02

Quit the Mafia Crown, Took the Healer Scalpel Chapter 02

Lina had the divorce agreement delivered to her lawyer, then made a special call to Dante’s mother.

Mrs. Conti was in the middle of a card game with her usual friends and answered with irritation.

“Say what you need to say.”

Lina’s voice was calm and flat.

“I tricked Dante into signing divorce papers. I’m leaving with nothing. Keep it from him and push it through.”

“Are you sure?”

Mrs. Conti was stunned. After a long pause, she let out a wistful sigh.

“Back then I refused to accept you. Dante broke with the family and married you anyway. It made headlines.”

“Then you knelt outside the church for three days and nights, passed my test before God, and I gave in.”

“You survived the hard years. What’s wrong with the Donna’s life? If it’s the mistresses, know this: money matters more than love. You’re the legal wife.”

Lina smiled bitterly to herself.

“I married Dante for his ‘I love you.’ Once I had his heart, I couldn’t bear his endless affairs.”

“Besides, a Donna of the Contis has no career. I graduated first in my class to be more than a trophy wife.”

At that, Mrs. Conti stopped trying to talk her out of it.

“Fine. I’ll help you.”

“Thank you,” Lina said, a rare lightness in her voice. “When the divorce is final, I’ll train in Europe and never come back.”

She had barely finished speaking when footsteps sounded behind her.

Her heart tightened, and she ended the call in a hurry.

When she turned, Dante was already behind her, robe loose at his waist, water still dripping down his jaw.

His eyes darkened. “It’s late. Who were you calling?”

“No one,” Lina said, her smile faint. “Just going over tomorrow’s schedule with the butler.”

Dante didn’t doubt her. He slipped an arm around her waist.

His eyes churned with possessiveness. “Didn’t you promise me an heir?”

Lina’s body stiffened.

She had assumed the child was just talk, but he was serious.

The next second, he scooped her up and dropped her onto the soft bed.

He came down over her, his hot breath everywhere.

He was like a man who had found the old frenzy of their early days, holding her, unwilling to stop.

But the closer their bodies were, the colder her heart grew.

How could Dante spend the day with his mistress, then look at his wife with such greedy devotion?

His promiscuity was absurd. His hypocrisy was blinding.

In the small hours, Lina slipped out of bed and swallowed one white pill with cold water.

Her first and only child with Dante had died horribly.

Six months pregnant, she had gone to the family headquarters to share the heartbeat news and caught him with his secretary.

The heartbeat stopped on the spot. There was no chance to save the baby.

She never got pregnant again. She blamed it on the miscarriage, but the truth was her heart had gone cold and her body refused.

With the divorce so close, she could not risk a pregnancy now.

A door opened behind her.

Lina’s hand froze. She spun around.

Dante stood in the doorway, his face terrifyingly dark, his eyes fixed on the pill box in her hand.

“What are you taking?”
