One Don Hates Me to the Bone, the Other Seeks My Ruin Chapter 05

The two freed women rushed desperately into the arms of their lovers.

Oliver held Hanna close like a priceless treasure, never throwing a single glance my way.

Noah patiently consoled a trembling Jessica, his eyes overflowing with tenderness.

No one cared that I was still in the hands of the kidnappers.

The ocean wind howled in my ears.

Along with Hanna’s whispered words, looping endlessly in my mind…

“They called it half an hour ago. Your mother didn’t make it. You should go keep her company.”

My mother’s health had plummeted over the past six months, leaving her unconscious most of the time.

Even during her rare moments of clarity, she relied heavily on narcotics to dull the agonizing pain.

Once the imported life-support machines were turned off, she wouldn’t last ten minutes.

The family doctor had urged me to let her go, explaining that the machines were merely preserving an empty

shell.

But I couldn’t do it.

It was my own selfishness that kept her tethered to this world.

I looked at the four people on the shore.

My husband was fiercely protecting the sister who had spent her life tormenting me.

The man I loved with all my soul was gently holding the girl of his dreams.

They all had somewhere to belong.

Except for me. I was just an irrelevant outsider.

The kidnappers sneered, closing in on me as one whispered.

“Don’t blame us, Donna Martinez. The truth is, those two ladies paid us to ruin your reputation… We’re just

taking the cash”.

So the entire kidnapping, the choice… it was all a setup orchestrated by Hanna and Jessica.

Hanna wanted to utterly destroy her younger sister, and Jessica wanted to eliminate her rival.

They were a match made in hell.

One kidnapper turned on a camera while the other reached out to tear at my clothes.

I didn’t hesitate for a single second.

The moment before his hand could brush my skin, I spun around and threw myself into the freezing ocean

My hands were bound tightly behind my back.

My body sank rapidly.

The numbing, icy water swallowed me whole.

The faint glow of the lighthouse on the surface grew dimmer and dimmer.

In the distance, I thought I heard Noah screaming my name in absolute agony.

It was probably just a dying hallucination.

I slowly closed my eyes.

The salty water filled my lungs, and a suffocating darkness swept over me.

There was no pain.

Only peace.

Before his brain could even register the shock, Noah charged toward the edge of the deck like a madman.

Shaking off a crying Jessica who tried to hold him back, he dived headfirst into the churning waves.

Oliver stood frozen on the deck, staring at the spot where Helen had vanished.

That was Helen. His wife, his pawn for revenge. He had never actually wanted her to die.

He had planned to soothe Hanna first, then negotiate with the kidnappers to let Helen go.

But he never expected her to be so stubborn, choosing to leap into the abyss instead.

With trembling hands, he pulled out his phone and ordered his assistant to deploy the family’s rescue team

immediately.

The divers searched the waters, eventually dragging up only a severely exhausted, semi-conscious Noah.

The two kidnappers had already vanished into the night before anyone could react.

They searched through the night, but there was still no sign of Helen.

The rescue team eventually shook their heads in defeat.

Calling it a rescue mission now was just a polite way of saying they were looking for a corpse.

Compared to Noah’s shattered state, Oliver remained eerily calm.

It was an accident.

It was Helen’s own choice.

He had done everything he legally and morally had to do.

Though he owned countless luxury properties across the city, he drove back to the bay villa that night as if

guided by a ghost.

This was his and Helen’s marital home.
