Once My Only, Now Just a Memory Chapter 04

“Today is Lumi’s birthday. I only wanted to play with her.”

“Flora came in and immediately hit me!”

Brielle sobbed, grabbing Cillian’s sleeve to complain.

I didn’t waste my breath explaining. I laid Lumi back down on the mattress, gently patting her back to

soothe her.

“Cillian,” Brielle pressed, her tone growing desperate.

But Cillian only glared at her. “That is enough. Go home.”

Brielle stood frozen, her eyes flashing with resentment, but she eventually turned and walked out of the

room.

I looked at Cillian. I could see the deep irritation and displeasure in his eyes.

“You believe her?”

“Flora, there is a limit to your tantrums.” He didn’t answer directly, but his voice carried a heavy warning.

“I might lie, but Lumi would not,” I said immediately. “Brielle was hurting her.”

“Lumi is only four years old. You shouldn’t teach her to lie,” Cillian said coldly, cutting me off. “This is the last time. Stop targeting Brielle.”

With that, he set down the gift he had brought, turned on his heel, and walked out.

I stood there for a long time, unable to move.

This was not the first time Brielle had set me up.

But in the past, Cillian had always taken my side. He used to say, “I know you wouldn’t do that. I believe you.”

Now I realized he had never actually believed me.

Back then, he had simply cared enough to pretend. Now, he didn’t even want to bother.

Lumi slowly stopped crying, her small hand tugging at my shirt. “Mommy, is Daddy angry with us?”

“Did Lumi do something wrong?”

“No, sweetie. You did nothing wrong.” I held her tightly against my chest, my eyes burning. “It was Mommy’s fault.”

I stayed in the hospital room all night, holding her close.

The next morning, Brielle returned to the ward.

I snapped out of a restless sleep, my brow furrowing as I looked at her

“Are you proud of yourself? Cillian defended you and blamed me.”

Brielle smiled coldly. “He told me he believes me.”

“I know an Omega like you will never willingly let go of an Alpha like him. But the Pack will never recognize you as Luna. Cillian is already losing interest in you. The Luna title will be mine soon.”

I immediately covered Lumi’s ears.

To my own surprise, my voice was entirely flat when I spoke. “I am already preparing to leave him. Once Lumi’s treatment is finished, whatever you do has nothing to do with me.”

Brielle’s expression shifted from triumph to annoyance.

“Still playing the victim? You really are a manipulative b**ch.”

“But let me show you today who actually matters to him.”

Before I could react, Brielle dashed out of the room and slammed the door shut.

A sharp click echoed. She had locked it from the outside

What was she doing?

I got my answer a moment later.

Thick, gray smoke began pouring in through the gap under the door. The loud screech of the fire alarm filled the hallway.

I quickly scooped Lumi into my arms and began hammering on the heavy door.

“Help! Someone help us!”

I heard Cillian’s voice shouting outside as he ran toward the room.

But then, Brielle’s frantic cries rose above the noise.

“My leg… Cillian, I can’t walk!”

I squeezed Lumi tighter.

“Cillian! Leave me! Just get Lumi out first!”

There was a sudden pause outside the door.

Then Brielle spoke, her voice loud and clear.

“Her pup is a child, but what about ours?”

“Cillian, I am pregnant.”

My body went completely numb. Through the thickening smoke, I heard Cillian lift her into his arms.

“Flora, hang on. I will be right back for you and Lumi.”

His footsteps grew fainter. I threw my weight against the locked door.

“Cillian Wrenford!”

“You bastard!”

There was no reply.

Lumi began to cough violently, gasping for air.

I forced myself to stay calm. I tried to summon my wolf, but she was too weak to help me shift.

I turned my head and looked at the window. We were six stories up.
