On the Wedding Day, I Married the Groom’s Uncle Chapter 03

For the child inside me, nothing else mattered anymore.

I turned. Got on my hands and knees. I barked twice. My voice shook. “I’m nothing but a begging bitch. I don’t deserve to carry Hamilton blood.”

Tatum leaned down. A smug smile spread across her face.

“Avery. When I was on my knees crying, begging you not to marry Jagger—did you ever think this day would come?”

She’d come to me back then. Told me she and her brother were in love. Told me to break off the engagement.

The marriage was arranged by our families. There were interests. Contracts. Deals. If I called it off, the blame would land on me. My family would suffer. I refused.

She’d nursed that grudge all this time.

I had no energy to fight her on old history now. I looked at them. Pleaded. “Please. Call an ambulance.”

Jagger slammed his foot into my back. “Avery, you really are pathetic. You’ll debase yourself for anything. Even this bastard.”

I collapsed. My belly hit the solid hardwood floor. Fire spread through my abdomen.

“You said you’d let my baby live…”

Tatum’s voice was lazy. “I said I would. Jagger didn’t.”

“You used that lump in your belly to run a con under my name. You want me to let you go? Not a chance.”

Jagger kicked me. Hard. Right in the stomach. Pain seized me. Cramps. Then warmth. Blood. Running down between my legs.

I felt the movement inside me fade. Stop.

Despair. Cold and absolute. I looked at them. Pure hatred seared into my gaze.

“Jagger Hamilton. Tatum Hamilton. You will regret this.”

Tatum stood beside Jagger. Venom in her eyes. “Jagger. This whore still hasn’t learned her lesson. Clearly she hasn’t been taught enough.”

Jagger grinned. Cold. “Let’s see who makes who regret this.”

“Tatum. Get some rope.”

Tatum understood immediately. She found rope in the living room. Walked toward me.

I dragged my bleeding lower body backward. Terror filled my eyes. “What are you doing?”

All I got back were their faces. Lit up with excitement.

They bound my hands and feet together. Then they grabbed the rope and dragged me. From inside the house to the outside. A long smear of blood trailed across the marble floor.

They dragged me to the pool. Jagger kicked me in.

Bound. Couldn’t move. I sank.

Water sealed over my mouth and nose. Suffocation. I thought I was going to die right there.

Jagger yanked the rope and hauled me up. “Avery. Have you learned your lesson yet? Will you ever try to make a fool of me again?”

I gasped. Sucked in air. But something was wrong. The pain in my abdomen was shifting. Dropping lower.

Beckett and I took those new-parent classes. I knew exactly what this was.

I was going into early labor.

The odds were almost zero. But I couldn’t give up. Not on this last shred of hope.

I begged Jagger again. “I’ve learned. I’ll never do it again. Please. Let me and my baby live.”

“I’m in labor. Please. Call an ambulance. I’m begging you…”

Jagger spat. “Bitch. Still thinking about that bastard. You haven’t learned a damn thing.”

“Today, I will not let that bastard leave this house alive.”

He drew his leg back to kick me into the pool again.

I closed my eyes. Despair. Just the terror of drowning.

The gates of the Hamilton estate slammed open.

Beckett Hamilton charged through. His eyes were wild. He roared. “Stop!”
