On Children’s Day, My Future Daughter Called—He Got Exposed Chapter 05

Not long after I left, Gavin rushed to the door and opened it.

Hailey walked out of the kitchen with a plate of freshly washed fruit in her hands.

She looked completely at home, as if she had always lived there.

“What are you looking at?”

Gavin glanced outside but did not see me anywhere.

For some reason, irritation rose in him.

“Nothing. Just taking out the trash.”

Hailey sat down on the couch and called him out without mercy.

“The trash can is still full.”

“Gavin, if you really like Wendy, I’ll go get an abortion. Don’t play this disgusting game with us.”

Gavin sighed and crouched on the carpet.

He raised his hand to Hailey’s belly and coaxed her gently.

“Hailey, don’t say that. You’ll scare the baby.”

“I told you, the company needs Winters Group’s project. I’m just worried Wendy will get mad, go back to her dad, and make him cancel it.”

Gavin leaned down and kissed Hailey’s belly.

“I’m doing this so you and our little girl can have a good life.”

Hailey stopped arguing with him, but she was worried too.

“You know Wendy’s temper. Her dad spoiled her rotten. Why did you have to say all that just now?”

“What if tomorrow’s project…”

“There won’t be a what-if.”

Gavin cut her off, his tone unusually firm.

“Wendy Winters pursued me for three years and spent seven years worshipping me like a fool. She won’t do that.”

“She was willing to break her leg just to be with me. This is only one project.”

The corner of Gavin’s mouth lifted. “Even if I asked her to transfer her shares to me, she wouldn’t hesitate.”

Hailey frowned slightly. Although she felt a little uncomfortable, she said nothing more.

The next day, quite a few people showed up at Winters Group’s bidding meeting.

As a rising star in the industry, Gavin moved among the heads of different companies, chatting and networking.

“Mr. Grant, I hear you’re about to marry the Winters heiress. Congratulations!”

At that, fake smiles spread across everyone’s faces.

“Today’s Winters Group project is definitely going to Mr. Grant.”

“We’re all just here for show.”

After being flattered by everyone, Gavin began to feel smug.

He said all the right modest things out loud, but inside, he was secretly pleased.

I had promised him those projects a month ago.

He was completely confident.

After all, I had never gone back on anything I promised him.

Gavin looked around, searching for me.

After more than ten minutes, he still did not see me.

For some reason, panic began to creep into his chest.

He quickly picked up his phone and called me. At that moment, I was on a plane, and my phone was off.

Unable to reach me, the pounding in his chest grew even more chaotic.

Gavin opened his messages and bombarded me.

Still, there was no answer.

Gavin: [Wendy, stop this. I only said those things yesterday because I was angry and thought you didn’t trust me.]

Gavin: [The project bidding is today. How could you not come to something this important?]

Gavin: [Wendy, I was wrong. We can deal with our personal issues later. Please stop acting out.]

The messages sank without a trace.

Just then, my dad came in from the back and entered the bidding hall.

The heads of each company eagerly stepped forward to greet him.

My dad was kind by nature. He could happily exchange a few words with anyone.

But today, he ignored only Gavin, the man everyone had already treated as Mr. Winters Sr.’s future son-in-law.

Gavin’s outstretched hand froze awkwardly in midair.

Unwilling to accept it, he rushed forward to my dad, his words carrying a trace of smugness.

“Mr. Winters Sr., you could have just handed the projects directly to my company and let us handle the coordination. There was no need to go through all the trouble of holding a bidding meeting.”

“Wendy didn’t come home yesterday. She went back to your place, didn’t she? Please talk to her for me and tell her to stop being so unreasonable all the time.”

Gavin kept talking, completely failing to notice that my dad’s expression had darkened.

My father ignored him and walked onto the stage.

After every company finished presenting its proposal, my dad stepped up to announce which company would receive the project.

Gavin was already prepared. He rose from his seat and walked toward the front.

My father glanced at Gavin, disgust plain in his eyes.

“I hereby announce that this project will be fully handled by the Shaw Group.”
