Oh No, My Mafia Husband Is About to Lose Control Chapter 08

Leon laid out his terms, calm and methodical.

He pushed the proposal toward me. His tone was the same one he used to negotiate billion-dollar deals.

“One. Mr. Grant’s company is in early stages and unstable. I can support him. Connections, capital, supply chain-whatever he needs.”

He paused. “Two. I won’t ask about you and him. You don’t have to feel guilty.”

“Three-”

I cut him off. Looked him in the eye. “After all that, what do you need from me?”

He froze.

Then, almost without thinking: “Nothing. I don’t have any conditions.”

I laughed, half furious.

“Why?”

He was quiet for a long time.

Then, almost like he’d already lost, he gave a quiet sigh.

He lowered his head. His voice was strained. “Because I want you to stay.”

He looked up at me.

The heavy sorrow in his eyes was slowly turning into something else. Something that looked like begging.

His voice was hoarse. “Bella. I’m the one who can’t let you go.”

He looked at me like a man with no chips left to bargain with. “Don’t divorce me. Please?”

My eyes stung, hot.

I sniffed.

I looked at him-angry and aching at once. “Leon. You idiot. There’s nothing between me and Lucas. Stop spreading rumors online.”

Lucas had laughed at me for a solid hour when he sent me that screenshot.

He said the wife I’d married was outrageously generous. Handing out blank checks like it was nothing.

What a useless, money-throwing husband.

Leon stared at me, stunned.

His face turned red, completely beyond his control.

He stood up in a panic, looking away, too embarrassed to meet my eyes.

His voice was small. “Sorry. I get it now. I’ll delete the posts.”

I didn’t give him the chance to escape.

I threw myself into his arms.

Wrapped both arms around his waist. Tilted my face up. “Leon. Do you like me?”

He looked down at me. His throat moved.

I said it slowly, one word at a time. “This time, I don’t care what anyone else says. I want to hear it from

you.”

I could feel his heartbeat, hammering.

So fast it almost rang in my ears.

He went rigid for a second.

The next, he was crushing me back into him.

Almost desperate, the way he held on.

His throat moved again. He looked down at me. His voice broke, rough. “I love you, Bella.”

My eyes blurred with heat, but I couldn’t help smiling.

I leaned into him. Voice soft. “I love you too, husband.”

I was still me. Leon was still Leon.

After we cleared things up, the first thing we did was make up for lost time.

The reason we hadn’t hired live-in help was this. Things got too… involved.

Privacy mattered.

This time, we made up for everything we’d missed.

Left traces of ourselves in just about every corner of the house.

I almost passed out from exhaustion.

In the dark, Leon suddenly asked, “Wife. Why were you so cold to me, all that time?”

I was wide awake instantly.

I pouted and went straight to deflect.

Indignant. “How dare you ask me that. It was your fault for never coming home. Of course I started

spiraling.”

The more I said it, the more wronged I sounded. “I even dreamed you wanted to divorce me for another

woman and wouldn’t give me a cent.”

Then I remembered the perfume, and got mad all over again.

I rolled over and pinned him down. Through gritted teeth: “And then I smelled women’s perfume in our house. Explain that.”

Leon went silent.

I gave a cold little laugh. “So you really did bring another woman home.”

He stared up at me with those dark eyes.

His voice, quiet. “That was a gift I brought you.”

I froze.

He looked at me, helpless. “You watched Scent of a Woman a while back and decided you needed to collect every fragrance on the list. You said you’d wear a different one every day, and have me guess which scenario

you wanted to act out.’

I…

I lay back down, very quietly.

Pulled the blanket up. Voice instantly meek. “Okay then. Goodnight.”

A beat passed. A helpless little laugh escaped Leon.

He pulled me back into his arms. Voice low. “I made you suffer. What do you want as an apology?”

My eyes lit up. I jumped on the opportunity.

I leaned to his ear and whispered something.

The smile slowly faded from Leon’s face.
