The day after the wedding, we went to the courthouse.

We got our marriage certificate.

Callan once told me Ireland once banned divorce. He’d wanted to use that

country to promise me forever.

Standing here now, I finally understood.

It wasn’t about whether a country allowed divorce. It was about the right person making the marriage itself the promise.

When I held that certificate-covered in the judge’s handwritten blessings-l laughed. Out loud.

The kind of laugh you let out when you’ve finally made the right decision for your own life.

My laugh died the second we stepped outside.

Callan was at the courthouse gates.

His hair was a mess. Stubble shadowed his jaw.

He was waiting.

His eyes found me. His pupils contracted. He lunged.

“Eden. You actually went through with it.”

Graham blocked him before his hands could reach me.

“Sir. Step away from my wife.”

Callan jerked to a stop. He stared at Graham like he wanted to kill him.

“Your wife? Don’t make me laugh.”

“I’ve been with Eden for ten years. And you’re telling me she’s your wife?”

“She’s just throwing a tantrum. She married you to get back at me. Do yourself a favor. Walk away. Before I make you.”

Graham’s expression didn’t even flicker. Perfect composure.

But I couldn’t stomach Callan’s bullshit anymore.

I stepped in front of Graham. I looked at Callan with pure disgust.

“Callan. Are you a sore loser?”

He stiffened.

“What’s that supposed to mean?”

I smiled.

“The day you told me the venue changed. That was the day I decided to make a bet of my own. How long until you noticed the groom had been swapped.”

“You lost the bet. So disappear.”
