No Longer a Silent Luna Chapter 07

No Longer a Silent Luna Chapter 07

Once I arrived at the Antarctic research station, life turned out to be even fuller than I had imagined.

Every day was packed.

Between collecting samples, running analyses, and writing reports, I barely had time to think, let alone look

back.

Before I knew it, a month had passed.

Ariana came into my room one day with her arms full of experiment data.

“Lyra, you’re actually unreal. You finished all this overnight?”

I kept my eyes on the biological samples in front of me and didn’t even look up.

“You’re just slow. It looks like a lot, but the usable data really isn’t that much.”

She grabbed me by the arm and hauled me to my feet.

“My little machine, even machines need supply. You’ve been working all morning without eating. What, are

you planning to run on electricity?”

She dragged me off to the cafeteria, and warmth spread quietly through my chest.

Because of my work, the director had handed me a new project the week before.

I had been so busy I barely had time to stop and eat.

But the satisfaction the research gave me outweighed everything else.

Here, I felt like I’d found my old college self again-confident, driven, and alive.

We were halfway through lunch when Kael Thorne came over and sat across from us.

He casually handed each of us a bottle of milk. “It’s hard enough to catch either of you at mealtime.”

Ariana immediately shot me a teasing look and wiggled her brows.

‘Is it hard to catch me, or hard to catch Lyra? Kael, it’s been years and you’re still this subtle?”

Under the table, I tugged at Ariana’s sleeve in embarrassment.

Kael had been my upperclassman in college.

He had

confessed to me once.

But back then, I had already been with Corvin, so I turned him down without hesitation.

I never expected to run into him again here, after all these years.

“She’s kidding.” I said quickly. “Don’t mind her. It’s been a long time.”

I tried to smooth it over, not noticing the tips of Kael’s ears turning faintly red.

We were assigned to the same research group.

At work, he was steady and capable, with the kind of skill that made everyone trust him.

When I first arrived, he had helped me a lot.

I was genuinely grateful.

I thought my life would go on like that, quiet, busy, and peaceful.

Then one day, when I stepped out of the lab, I saw Corvin standing in the main hall.

He looked travel-worn and exhausted, thinner than before, unshaven, with dark circles bruising the skin

beneath his eyes.

The second he saw me, his eyes lit up.

“Lyra… I’ve been looking for you forever. How did you end up all the way out here? It’s freezing. You can’t keep

putting yourself through this just because you’re angry.”

“I know I was wrong. Come home with me, okay?” as he spoke, he reached for my hand.

I stepped aside before he could touch me.

My voice was cool and distant. “Alpha, have some respect for yourself. We’ve already broken the mate bond.”

“It’s good here. Better than Nighthowl Pack by a thousand miles.”

The distance in my tone seemed to stun him.

Still unwilling to give up, he hurriedly pulled out the Mate Bond Dissolution Certificate.

‘Look, I severed the bond with Elara. Please don’t be mad at me anymore, okay?”

‘I know about the pup now too. I’m sorry. I’m sorry to you and our pup. I’ll make it up to you. I’ll love you

properly from now on.”

My face didn’t change.

There wasn’t even a ripple in my eyes. “Your life has nothing to do with me anymore. The pup is gone. Your

regret means nothing. If that’s all, I need to get back to work.”

Then I turned and walked away.

“Lyra, wait…”

I ignored him completely, went into my office, and closed the door.

Through the glass wall, I could see him still standing there

He didn’t leave all afternoon
