Never Again in This Life Chapter 17

As for Sterling, my public rejection had left him deeply humiliated in front of his friends and business partners.

On top of that, his falling out with Maddox had severed the business ties between their two families, causing his company to take a major hit.

It took him years to claw his way back to some semblance of stability.

But he never regained the power and influence he once had.

He sent me one last message.

It was very short, just a single sentence.

“Tessa, I was wrong.”

I deleted it without a second thought.

Those words had come far too late. They meant nothing to me now.

Several years later, I earned my master’s degree and accepted a position at a prestigious design firm in London.

Leo became my boyfriend.

He was gentle, thoughtful, and respected me completely.

He remembered my birthday and always planned little surprises.

He never tried to insert other people’s needs into our relationship.

Whenever I had a decision to make, he listened carefully and offered his unwavering support.

It was only after being with him that I realized how effortless a healthy relationship could be.

One sunny afternoon, he got down on one knee and opened a small velvet box.

I looked into his eyes and nodded.

Grandma sat on a nearby bench, clapping her hands in delight.

I had finally built the life I wanted, on my own terms.

Maddox and Sterling were just a wrong turn on a long road.

I was lucky I’d left when I did, before I became permanently lost.

As for what happened to them after that, I really didn’t care.
