My Wife’s Cruel Secret and My Sister’s Death Chapter 01

My Wife’s Cruel Secret and My Sister’s Death Chapter 01 The Torn Case File
My sister, Seren Carter, had been one of the country’s top medical scientists.
She was gang raped.
When they found her, there was severe tearing in her vaginal area. Her vagina had been packed with used condoms.
I stayed beside her body all night.
My wife, Claire Carter, was the CEO of a major corporation.
The second she saw me, her eyes turned red with pain.
Then she put up a $10 billion reward and ordered everyone under her command to hunt down the killers.
Later, the police gave me their latest lead.
I went to Claire’s office to tell her.
Instead, I walked in on her foster brother, Lucas Hayes, sitting in a motorized wheelchair.
Claire was on top of him, her hips moving hard as he gripped her waist.
“Claire, are you really going to help your husband catch me?” Lucas asked softly.
Claire grabbed a fistful of his hair, her voice breaking into a loud moan.
“Come on. You really think I don’t know who matters more?”
She leaned closer to him.
“I’ll take care of this for you. As for Seren, she had the nerve to steal your research.
“Forty-eight guys raped her to death. Serves her fucking right!”
The words hit me like lightning.
I forced down the rage burning in my chest and slipped away without making a sound.
Claire had no idea that only one person could perform the surgery that might let her walk again.
That person had been Seren.

That night, Claire put a case closure form in front of me.
“I’m sorry, Rhys. The killers got out of the country. There’s really nothing I can do now.”
I glanced at the report. A dull ache spread through my chest.
“You’re telling me all 48 of them left the country at the exact same time?”
Claire avoided my eyes.
“I know this is hard for you to accept, but that’s what happened. You don’t want Seren trapped in this forever, do you? Let her rest.”
If I signed that paper, that was when Seren would truly never rest.
I tore the form in half right in front of her.
Then I looked at Lucas.
“Lucas, you were the last person Seren saw before she left the hospital, weren’t you?”
The question caught him off guard.
His face froze. Then he immediately looked at Claire for help.
“Enough!”
Claire’s face darkened. She moved in front of Lucas and shielded him with her body.
“Rhys, cut the crap. Lucas had nothing to do with them getting away.
“Seren was unlucky. Tough shit. You can’t blame everybody else for it.”
My eyes burned as I stepped toward her.
“She rewrote your surgery plan over 300 times because of your leg.
“And this is how you repay her? Do you have any fucking conscience?”
Lucas quickly stepped between us.
“Claire didn’t kill Seren. Why are you screaming at her?”
The real killer stood in front of me wearing an innocent face.
I punched him.
A second later, security guards rushed in and slammed me to the floor.
Claire saw the bruises on Lucas’s face, and her face instantly darkened.
She turned to the guards. “Don’t go easy on him.”
The next second, they came at me with their fists. Blow after blow rained down on me.
Claire’s voice turned sharp.
“That’s my brother, Rhys. What the hell made you think you could touch him?”
I lay on the floor.
My heart hurt so badly that it finally went numb.
When Lucas first started at the hospital, Claire had begged me to ask Seren to look out for him.
I had done exactly that. And that favor had gotten Seren killed.
Claire stared down at me.
“Please. I know exactly what Seren did to Lucas. She pushed him around at the hospital and turned everyone against him.
“She was petty and mean. Now she’s dead. It is what it is.
“Sign the damn paperwork and let them close the case. Quit wasting public resources on this.”
“Fuck you! I’m not signing this. I’m not letting the people who killed Seren just walk away!”
No one cared that I fought back.
The guards forced my hand down and made me sign my name.
Lucas looked at the signature.
Then he nudged me with the toe of his shoe.
“Don’t worry, Rhys. I’ll study Dr. Carter’s surgical plan very carefully. I’ll make sure Claire walks again.”
I was still on the floor. I could only watch as Lucas wheeled Claire away.
Once they were gone, I opened one of Claire’s desk drawers and found her treatment schedule.
It said the best time for surgery was one week from then.
One week.
I could wait that long.
