My Sister’s Forbidden Love For My Fiancé Chapter 05

My Sister’s Forbidden Love For My Fiancé Chapter 05

Sadie was wearing a white bridesmaid dress that day.

Her bare right foot pressed against the cold marble floor, toes curling. One hand reached for Edmund’s arm, but the panic on her face hadn’t quite faded.

The moment she touched him, he halted for a beat, and then yanked himself away, hard.

The force sent Sadie stumbling back two steps. Her spine slammed into a Roman column with a dull thud.

She braced herself against the pillar, barely steady, and looked up. Her face went blank.

Edmund stood two paces away, staring at her.

She’d never seen that look on him before. Agitation. Rage. And something else that made her skin crawl, something she didn’t want to name, couldn’t bear to name.

Suspicion.

Sadie’s lips went pale. She pushed off the column and straightened up.

“You think I hid her?”

“Edmund, are you insane?”

He didn’t answer. He didn’t even look at her eyes. He took another half step back and raised his phone again, thumb hammering redial, over and over.

Sadie watched him. She knew that profile. She’d traced it with her eyes since childhood.

And suddenly she was more terrified than when he’d shoved her, more terrified than when she’d hit that

column.

She lunged forward and grabbed his shoulders, her nails nearly digging through the fabric of his suit. Her voice shot up, sharp and shrill.

“Edmund, tell me. What are you even looking for?”

“Her body, or some ghost in your head?”

“You’re in love with her now? You said you loved me. You said I was the one!”

Edmund’s thumb hovered above the keypad. He didn’t press it.

He stood frozen, his throat bobbing twice, lips parting, but no sound came out.

Sadie’s words had hit something, a place he himself didn’t dare touch. His pupils constricted. Something churned behind his eyes, something he crushed down hard.

Sadie caught the reaction and let out a laugh.

She released his shoulders and stepped back, her bare foot landing on a broken crystal shard on the floor.

She didn’t look down.

“All you see is her now, Edmund.”

“Take a look at yourself. Does that face took like a man who’s looking for someone he doesn’t love?”

“Did you ever chase me like that? Ever?”

Her words were coming faster, a string pulled to breaking point.

She rushed at him again, fisting his collar, the custom-made black suit wrinkling under her grip.

She tilted her face up, close enough that her nose almost hit his chin, and forced out each word through gritted teeth.

“You promised me forever, Edmund.”

“You got on your knees and said it. Did you forget? Did you change? Tell me. Did you change?”

He looked down at her.

That face, painted with meticulous bridesmaid makeup, tiny sequins at the corners of her eyes, meant to be

stunning.

He raised his hand and pried her fingers off his collar, one by one.

His grip was firm. Her wrist reddened under the pressure, and she hissed in pain. But he didn’t let go until

the last finger was free. Then he took a step back.

“I don’t know.”

“I just know I have to find her.”

Slap.

The crack of that palm echoed through the empty corridor, bouncing off the walls, and the whole wedding

venue fell silent.

Every guest, every groomsman, every hotel staffer froze. Dozens of eyes swiveled toward the center of the hallway.

Sadie’s head snapped to the side. She stumbled, her white gown sweeping across the floor, coming up gray with dust.

Edmund’s mother, Eleanor Pierce, stood in front of her. The hand that had just struck was still trembling.

“Bitch!”

The word came out of Eleanor’s mouth and drove into every ear in the room.

Sadie’s shoulders jerked

Eleanor pointed at her, her voice shaky but razor-sharp, every syllable a white-hot nail.

“You grew up with your sister. She took you home from the orphanage and raised you like her own blood

sister.”

“Every bite you ate, every stitch on your back, every penny you spent, she gave you. Is this how you repay

her?”

“Seduce your own brother-in-law? Grabbing him in the hallway on his wedding day? Sadie, are you even

human?”

Sadie stood there, one hand pressed to her cheek, her fingers barely hiding the red imprint burning across

her skin.

She didn’t look at Eleanor. Her gaze went past her shoulder, instinctively searching for Edmund.

That look still held a shred of something, pathetic, stubborn hope.

She was waiting for him to speak. To say one word for her.

Even just “Mom, stop.” Even just one step forward.

But Edmund didn’t even glance her way.
