On the way there, my mind was heavy, full of thoughts about whether Charlotte would make things difficult for me. 

Actually, her signal today had been very clear. I was worried Department Head Lincoln wouldn’t be able to protect me. 

Thinking of what Zachary had said to me before, I wondered whether I should ask him for help. 

Today, Charlotte had also said the big boss appreciated me. 

What did that mean? 

It meant he had a good impression of me.

The hostess looked about my age. Her smile was sweet, and

There was a full–length mirror by the stairs. 

I fixed my hair in front of it and touched up my lipstick. 

After confirming there were no problems, I gathered my courage and stepped up to the second floor. 

But my courage lasted only five seconds. 

Because I spotted someone familiar. 

The big boss I had been thinking about the whole way here. 

Zachary. 

Should I say hello? 

While I hesitated, I suddenly saw him take his phone out of his pocket and put it to his ear. 

I quickly pulled my foot back. 

If I appeared now, no matter which direction I went, I couldn’t 

avoid his line of sight. 

So… I waited. 

“He can really talk.” 

Five minutes passed. I leaned against the corner wall and silently sighed. 

Only after he put his phone back into his pocket and walked into a private room did I pull myself together again. 

Meeting an online boyfriend and running into my boss was truly socially fatal.

I rubbed my eyes and felt that I needed to go downstairs and 

confirm my room number with that sweet hostess again. 

Suddenly, the door opened. 

I collided head–on with the big boss. 

“Hello, Mr. Locke. What a coincidence. You’re eating here 

too?” 

I greeted him with forced calm, trying my best to look natural, as if I truly had just passed by or accidentally gone to the 

wrong room. 

“Not a coincidence. I’m waiting for you. My girlfriend, ‘Fairy Doesn’t Eat Fish.‘ Baby Lily.” 

At the sound of that “baby,” I melted into mud. 

My heart screamed. 

I was dead. 

My dear hubby Moonlight really was him. 

Zachary Locke. 

His steady, powerful hand lifted under my knees. His beautiful hazel eyes gleamed with dark amusement. 

I didn’t dare raise my head. I leaned in his arms, my eyes stuck 

to his Adam’s apple, my lips pressing together again and 

again. 

“What? Want a bite?” 

“I don’t. Don’t make things up.” 

I blushed and raised my voice guiltily. 

“But I do. Didn’t you say you were treating me to dinner? What’s wrong? Now that you’ve seen me, you want to run?” 

He suddenly lowered his head. His sexy thin lips were only a fraction of an inch from the tip of my nose. 

I froze instantly and didn’t dare move. 

“I misunderstood. Don’t mind me.” 

I leaned back as much as possible, trying to avoid that mouth that was about to kiss the tip of my nose. 

“You didn’t misunderstand.” 

He straightened my body and firmly wrapped his arm around 

my waist. 

His clear voice carried a faint trailing note, sounding especially seductive. 

I foolishly made a “mm” sound. 

By the time I reacted, he was already smiling like the sun. 

During the meal, my head stayed lowered the entire time. 

Every so often, he placed food on my plate and said if I didn’t open my mouth, he would feed me himself. 

So I forced myself to swallow a few bites. 

“Baby, why are you ignoring me? Are you dissatisfied with me?” 

Zachary finally couldn’t hold back and asked. 

“No, no. Don’t overthink it. I’m just digesting. I’ll be fine in a while.” 

I quickly waved my hands at him. 

When I met his resentful eyes, a phrase popped into my head uncontrollably. 

Winning big. 

“That’s good. I thought I wasn’t good–looking enough to catch baby’s eye.” 

He was definitely humble bragging. 

While I lowered my head and secretly laughed, an exquisite gift box appeared in front of me. 

It was a pair of Tiffany ruby earrings, from the Sixteen Stone 

collection. 

If I remembered correctly, they were about six thousand 

dollars. 

I tried hard to control the corners of my mouth, which kept wanting to rise, and nodded shyly. 

As we talked more, the atmosphere slowly eased. 

“When did you recognize me?” 

Meeting his gaze, I rubbed my little hands together under the 

table. 

“The first time you came to my office.” 

“Then why did you still scold me?”

Zachary coughed unnaturally and began explaining.

“So Helen being fired for spreading rumors was your doing?” 

“Who told her to bully my baby?” 

Zachary sounded completely justified. 

In that moment, I felt like he was a huge umbrella, covering me completely. No matter how fierce the wind and rain outside, they couldn’t hurt me at all. 

I sniffed, my nose stinging, and voiced the last doubt in my 

heart. 

“I heard Charlotte Chen grew up with you and is your… 

fiancée?” 

“Total nonsense. She lives in Boston, I live in New York. She 

went to the Ivy League right when I graduated. We’ve met 

three times total since childhood. She came to Locke only 

because I was giving her father face. If baby doesn’t like her, I’ll send her to Africa.” 

“Africa? Isn’t that a bit much?” 

I was stunned and couldn’t fully process it. 

“What’s wrong with that? The group is building a factory 

there next year, and we urgently need young talent like 

Charlotte. Don’t worry, baby. At Locke, I won’t let anyone 

bully you.” 

“Hubby is so good.” 

Over one meal, Moonlight swore loyalty eight times. How 

could I not be moved? 

When Zachary heard me call him that, his gaze on me became darker and darker. His Adam’s apple rolled back and forth, as if he were suppressing some emotion. 

“Want to come to my place later?” 

He asked very softly. His voice was hoarse with a slight rasp, 

but I still caught it.
