The next day, I had just entered the office and made coffee 

when Amy quietly dragged her chair over. 

“Have you heard? The gossip about you.” 

“What gossip?” 

I instantly panicked. 

“People in the company are saying you’re being kept by some rich guy. Calling you a sugar baby.” 

“Who started it?” 

I guessed it was the two from Sales. I still remembered their 

sour comments from yesterday. 

“I don’t know that part. Anyway, everyone’s talking. The department head might talk to you later, so be prepared.” 

My mood instantly fell to rock bottom. 

Our HR department head’s last name was Lincoln. He had 

been on a business trip these past two days. 

Was our first meeting really going to be this socially fatal? 

I heard he was meticulous and tolerated no nonsense. 

But his temper was much better than the demon king’s. Even 

when he scolded people, he made them feel like they were 

being bathed in spring breeze. 

My eyes instantly reddened, and my tears fell in disobedient drops. 

Mr. Johnson comforted me and said he would go with me

He was handsome.

My voice was as soft as a mosquito. Under Mr. Johnson’s encouraging gaze, I bravely defended my name. 

A few light chuckles sounded near my ear.

spreading rumors, we will handle them seriously and show no tolerance. Focus on your work and don’t overthink it.”

Mr. Johnson froze, then burst out laughing.

I stood there foolishly, watching my mentor’s tall back, and felt so moved I almost melted.
