My New Life as a Rancher with a Hot Billionaire Husband Chapter 08

My New Life as a Rancher with a Hot Billionaire Husband Chapter 08

The next morning, Caleb woke to birds echoing through the valley and the distant sound of horses.

And instead of snapping at someone, he stretched, looking… refreshed.

He walked up to the front desk and tapped his knuckles lightly against it.

“Brittany Rhodes.”

It was the first time he had used my full name.

I quickly set down my tablet. “Mr. Harrington, you’re up. Did you sleep well?”

“Acceptable,” he said, adjusting his glasses, slipping back into that cool, superior composure. But the dark circles under his eyes had noticeably faded. “Extend that… immersive farm therapy program. One more

week.”

Inside, I was grinning like I’d just won the lottery. On the outside, I hesitated.

“Oh, Mr. Harrington, it’s a very popular program. I’ll need to check availability…”

“Ten thousand a day.”

“Done! I’ll schedule today’s session immediately. You’ll be starting with forest logging and core strength

training!”

For the next two weeks, Caleb entered full manual labor mode.

Mornings were spent chopping wood and cleaning out the stables.

Afternoons, fly fishing by the creek.

Evenings, helping me water the organic tomatoes in the greenhouse.

A high-powered CEO, transformed into a surprisingly competent all-around farmhand.

Strangely, he didn’t resist it. If anything, he seemed to enjoy it.

Once, after losing to an old hunter from a nearby town in a fly fishing contest, he secretly locked himself in

his room and spent the entire night watching instructional videos on world-class fly fishing techniques.

Somewhere along the way, the tension between us shifted.

It wasn’t sharp anymore. It became… something else.

He would sit quietly on the porch, watching me argue over a few cents with agricultural suppliers on the

phone. Then he would watch me turn around and donate every dollar I saved to a local wildlife conservation

group.

Behind those gold-rimmed glasses, his gaze carried emotions I couldn’t quite read.

That evening, the sky burned orange as the sun dipped behind the mountains.

Caleb and I lounged in chairs in the yard, sipping locally brewed cider and watching the rolling hills stretch

into the distance.

“Brittany,” he said suddenly, “what did you do before this? How did you end up running a farm out here in the

middle of nowhere?”

My chest tightened.

What was I supposed to say? That I used to be a stand-in for some billionaire’s first love? That I took the

payout and ran?

Yeah. No thanks.

I cleared my throat and put on a thoughtful expression.

“I used to be a powerhouse in the business world. Got tired of the rat race. Decided to turn my life around

and get back to nature.”

He smirked. Clearly unconvinced. “That’s the worst story I’ve ever heard.”

He paused, then looked at me more seriously.

“But this place… it’s good. Better than cold boardrooms and endless reports.”

I glanced at him, his face softened by the glow of the sunset.

And suddenly, I realized something.

When this capitalist wasn’t being insufferable, he was… ridiculously attractive.

“If you like it so much, stay longer,” I muttered. “Not like you can’t afford it.”

“Mm.” His voice was low, almost thoughtful. A faint smile tugged at his lips. “I might.”
