My Marriage: His Debt to Another Woman Chapter 22

Jake swayed on his feet.

The face that had once made my heart race now looked utterly defeated.

“If you come here again,” I said, “I’ll move somewhere you can never find me.”

With that, I closed the door.

I don’t know how long he stood out there in the silence.

After that day, Jake never came back.

But I moved anyway.

Leo helped me find a new apartment in a building with excellent security. His reason was simple.

“I need my star designer to be able to work in peace.”

It was a good enough reason, so I accepted.

Eight months later, my due date arrived.

I had just finished packing my hospital bag and was about to head out when I ran into Leo by the elevator.

I’d known for a while that he lived in the same building. It was an unspoken fact between us.

“I’ll drive you.” He took the suitcase from my hand as if it were the most natural thing in the world and led the way to his car.

I didn’t object. With a belly this size, getting around on my own was a challenge.

After getting checked in at the hospital, I took a walk in the garden.

That’s where I ran into Mike, one of Jake’s old friends.

His face was a mask of shock when he saw me. His gaze lingered on my stomach for a few seconds before he let out a heavy sigh.

“Jake really lost everything,” he said. “He might die without ever seeing his own child.”

My heart stuttered, but I kept my voice steady.

“What happened to Jake?”
