My Marriage: His Debt to Another Woman Chapter 15

I slowly came to realize that the “responsibility” Jake felt for Chloe had long ago crossed a line.

And in his heart, I had become the one who could always be pushed aside.

I’m a simple person.

When I commit to someone, my patience is nearly endless. But once I decide I’m done, I’m done. Even if that person is Jake.

Now, my only focus was on having this baby, raising it, and building my business.

That quiet life lasted for two weeks.

One day, I was carrying a box of orders downstairs to ship them at the corner UPS store when I saw him. Jake was standing at the entrance to my building.

He’d lost weight. There were dark circles under his eyes and a rough layer of stubble on his chin.

When he saw me, he started to step forward, then hesitated, as if afraid to get too close.

“Elara.” His voice was hoarse. “I’m not letting the divorce go through.”

I cut him off.

“What more is there to say? That it’s just responsibility between you and Chloe? I’ve heard enough.”

A pained look crossed Jake’s face. He took a step closer.

“Elara, you used to love me so much.” He stared at me. “Is all of that just… gone?”

I met his gaze.

“That was then,” I said. “This is now. It’s gone.”
