My eyes snapped to Orion.

His expression was perfectly smooth. He just let out a faint sigh.

“Orion, what does he mean?” My voice was shaking.

The one thing I’d been dreading had finally arrived.

That three years of devotion would turn out to be nothing but a joke.

“It means exactly what he said.” His tone was casual, as if discussing the weather.

“Estelle, you come from some backwater town no one’s ever heard of.”

“You’re capable, I’ll give you that.”

“But your family, your name… it’s not enough to stand beside me.”

“The DeLucas have a reputation in New York. You’re not suited for this family.”

“I didn’t want to break it to you so soon, so I decided to keep you by my side for a while.”

One of his friends raised a hand and pointed at Chiara.

“The woman who’s actually going to marry Orion is standing right here.”

“The DeLucas and the Riccis will be announcing the engagement soon.”

“That’s why Orion lets Chiara get away with this.”

It was like my brain just shut down.

I had imagined his feelings for me might change.

I had never imagined it was a scam from the very beginning.

So my love for Orion had just been a tool for him to use.

He used me to help him win the succession war in his family.

He clawed his way over his father’s other sons to secure his position as heir.

And now it was my turn to be discarded.

I stared at him, and when I spoke, my voice was unrecognizable.

“So it’s true?”

The faint smile playing at the corners of his mouth was a knife in my gut.

“Yes.”

In that moment, the last of my resolve shattered.

The whole thing was just absurd.

First, him.

Then, me.

I had just reached for my phone to make a call when Chiara rushed in and snatched it away.

“The half hour isn’t up. No calls.”

“I’ve already been more than generous with you.”

“I even let you stay by Orion’s side. You should be willing to pay a small price for that, shouldn’t you?”

“A woman like you, who wedges herself into someone else’s relationship, is bound to have her body seen by a few men sooner or later.”

If I’d been wearing a robe, I would have stood up and ripped that smile off her face.

When she saw my expression turn to ice, she only laughed harder.

“What? Angry?”

“The angrier you get, the faster the foam disappears.”

“They can hardly wait.”

The moment she said it, the room erupted in laughter.

There was nothing I could do. I could only clench my fists and sink deeper into the water.

Suddenly, two cockroaches landed in the tub.

I screamed.

The men at the door only grew more excited.

My voice raw, I looked at Orion.

“Orion, I’m begging you. One last time.”

“Make them leave.”

“Hand me the robe.”
