My Husband’s Heir Cost Him His Own Daughter Chapter 34

“You regret it, don’t you?”

Savannah finally dropped her arms. She looked at him through a veil of tears, her voice trembling.

“You regret being with me! Amelia’s gone, but I’m the one who’s been by your side all these years! Carter, do you know what my birthday wish is?”

She was crying in earnest now, as if she were the victim of some great injustice.

“I just want to get married. I want to be your wife, officially, and have our son’s name entered in the Beauchamp family trust. After that, you can divorce me, I don’t care. Everything I’ve done has been for our child. It’s my only wish. Can’t you even give me that?”

“If you’d asked me yesterday, maybe I would have,” Carter said, his eyes devoid of any warmth.

“But Amelia’s daughter was born prematurely because of you.”

He enunciated each word with chilling clarity.

“So listen to me, Savannah. If Amelia never forgives me, I will never marry again.”

He paused, the last flicker of emotion dying in his eyes.

“And if she does forgive me, I still won’t marry you. I’ve done enough for you. I gave the family the son they demanded. I don’t owe you anything. And I don’t owe them anything either.”

With that, he turned to leave.

“Carter! If you take one step out of this house, I’ll kill myself!”

Savannah screamed and lunged for an antique silver letter opener on a nearby console table.

The next second, the blade was pressed against her wrist.

“Have you forgotten?” Her face was a mess of tears, her expression horribly twisted. “I have depression! If you leave, I will actually die!”
