My Husband’s Heir Cost Him His Own Daughter Chapter 33

“Carter, where are you going?”

Savannah ran down the stairs in a silk robe, her face still puffy with sleep. But the sight of the luggage in Carter’s hand jolted her awake.

“You promised you’d spend today with me. Did you forget?”

Carter didn’t look up. He zipped the bag, his voice sharp with impatience.

“I don’t have time. I’m going to Boston.”

“Today is my birthday.” Savannah’s lip began to tremble, tears welling in her eyes. “You promised you’d spend my birthday with me. Did you forget?”

In the past, her tears would have made him soften.

Now, they just annoyed him.

The face that had once seemed so pitiful now looked manipulative and false.

“I’m going to find Amelia,” he said, his voice cold. “We can talk about your birthday when I get back.”

“I won’t let you go!”

Savannah threw her arms out, blocking the hallway.

“You can’t go back on your promise!”

“Go back on my promise?” Carter let out a humorless laugh. He stepped forward, the cold fury in his eyes making her flinch. “I also promised Amelia I would never betray her. And what happened? I still ended up in bed with you.”

He stopped right in front of her, looking down at her.

“Don’t forget how this started, Savannah. You were the one who climbed into my bed. You were the one who said you didn’t care about status, that you just wanted to be near me. What, is that not enough for you anymore?”

“I…” Savannah took a step back, but still refused to move.

“I’ll say this one last time,” Carter said, his voice dropping to a dangerous whisper. “Move.”
