My Husband’s Heir Cost Him His Own Daughter Chapter 11

Carter forced a stiff smile, trying to maintain control.

“I’m Carter Beauchamp. What can I do for you?”

The courier was unimpressed. He simply pulled a thick kraft paper envelope from his briefcase and held it out.

“I have court documents for you, sir. Please sign to acknowledge receipt.”

“Court?”

The smile vanished from Carter’s face.

He stared at the envelope.

The top-right corner bore the seal of the Massachusetts Family Court.

This wasn’t a speeding ticket or a simple notice.

The thickness, the formality… it looked like a final judgment.

A terrible premonition tightened its grip around his heart.

The whispers from the crowd grew louder.

“My God, is that a process server?”

“At an heir party? I’ve never seen anything like it.”

Savannah urged him in a low voice, “Carter, just sign it so he’ll leave. Everyone is staring.”

Carter didn’t move.

His hands and feet had gone cold. The noise of the party faded into the distance.

All he could see was that envelope, with its damning court seal.

It felt like a guillotine, waiting to fall.

He knew, with sickening certainty, that once he took it, some things could never be undone.
