My Husband’s Ghost Lover Chapter 03

My Husband’s Ghost Lover Chapter 03

That night, I felt completely unsettled.
Alonzo, however, acted as if he hadn’t noticed a thing, chatting away with Makayla.
The tenderness in his eyes made it look like he was branding her into his very soul—a gaze even more intense than the one he had given me when he proposed.
“Kayla, I’ve always wanted to know… What is your last remaining wish?”
Makayla loosely looped her arms through his and glanced at me casually.
“Why do you think I risked my life to save you? I told you the first time we met.
“I’ve had a crush on you for years, always wondering when I could finally be your girlfriend.
“For us to be like any ordinary couple—to hug, to kiss, and…”
Alonzo glanced at me nervously.
When he saw I showed no signs of losing control, he let out a nearly imperceptible sigh of relief.
Then he smiled faintly, his tone a mix of helplessness and regret. “But I’m married now. I love Jazlyn deeply.”
“So my wish will never come true. Still, fate has brought us together again, and for that, I’m grateful.”
Makayla’s voice was sorrowful and ethereal.
Seeing the tears glistening in her eyes, his expression softened. He reached out to adjust the ribbon on her dress.
Somewhere along the way, he had become able to touch her.
“It’s all right. I’ll always be by your side.”
I watched the scene unfold with a blank expression.
Ever since Makayla appeared, moments like this played out constantly.
They poured out their feelings for each other as if no one else was around, while I stood by like a fool, throwing fits.
And if I didn’t throw a fit, this is what happened next.
“Alonzo, is Jazzy upset again? She hasn’t said a word.”
Only then did Alonzo seem to remember I was standing there, turning toward me with a dark look.
He looked as if he was about to snap, but before I could speak, Makayla drifted closer.
“Jazzy, please don’t take what we said to heart. I’m already dead. I can’t hurt you. No matter how much I love him, we can never truly be together.
“Alonzo has already tried so hard to keep the peace between us. Please stop scowling and snapping at him all the time. It really breaks my heart to see it…”
She rambled on, her voice thick with tears, as if I were the villain standing in the way of their love.
“Jazlyn, that’s enough,” Alonzo finally snapped.
“It’s just a dress. Is it really worth throwing a fit over?
“Looking at those dull, lifeless eyes and sallow skin all day… Do you honestly still think you’re that young girl you used to be?”
I folded my arms and let him lecture me.
Only after he had vented everything did I finally look up. “Alonzo, don’t tell me you actually think I’ve been enjoying this? A man who can barely last three minutes now?
“I have to fake it every single time, and I’m tired of it too.”
