My Husband Wanted a Divorce. The Comments Told Me Why Chapter 08

The office was just Hunter and me.

He spoke slowly. “Stella, are you here to talk about the divorce?”

I noticed two copies of the agreement on the desk.

“You already drafted the agreement?” I picked one up and flipped through it quickly.

He’d already gotten everything ready. If I said I didn’t want a divorce, I’d probably just be humiliating myself.

Looking at the terms, I could see I’d be getting a lot if we divorced. Two full pages of assets. I scanned carefully.

But the mountain and the lab weren’t on the list. Those were what I really wanted.

I blurted out, “Why isn’t there…”

Hunter looked up and finished my sentence. “Not what you wanted most, is it?”

I nodded. “Yeah.”

Hunter’s gaze held a flicker of expectation. “Stella, what do you want most?”

“I want…” I started to say I wanted the lab.

But the words caught in my throat. I couldn’t say that.

If I said what I really wanted was the lab, Hunter would be crushed.

The comments were practically crying.

[Just say it, ice queen!]

[Are the words “the lab” stuck in your throat?]

[If you ask, he’ll give it to you. Get what you want, give Summer the guy, win-win. What’s the problem?]

I knew deep down why I was here. I wanted to win him back. I didn’t want a divorce, and it wasn’t just because of the mountain and the lab.

I truly thought he was a great partner.

I changed what I was going to say. “Hunter, what I want most… is you.”
