My Husband Wanted a Divorce. The Comments Told Me Why Chapter 03

An hour later, Hunter carried me out of the bathroom and gently laid me on the bed. I was so tired I felt like I was floating on air.

Half asleep, I mumbled, “Good night.”

Hunter froze for a second, then leaned down and touched my cheek. “You’re tired already?”

I nodded. “Yeah. I came back from The Ridge today, and I’m exhausted. You should sleep early too.”

Hunter stared at me for a moment, like he started to say something but stopped himself.

He replied, a mix of affection and disappointment in his voice, “Okay. You sleep first.”

I closed my eyes, avoiding his still-hungry look. I’d already been pretty forward. That should be enough, right?

The comments flooded.

[Is she blind? Can’t she see he’s still unsatisfied?]

[The ice queen changed, but only a little. Not nearly enough.]

[Does she have any idea what he’s capable of?]

[He was just getting warmed up.]

[He was ready to run a marathon, and she’s already calling it a sprint?]

[She only gave him an appetizer and some soup, no main course. How’s that supposed to fill him up?]

[If he’d married female lead, tonight he’d finally be satisfied.]

[Too bad. A man with that kind of appetite, stuck with an ice queen.]

[Stella lives at The Ridge half the time. Two weeks straight without coming home.]

[And Hunter always has to drive out there to find her. Even when he does, she’s still all about work.]

[She’s always holed up in the lab, leaving him waiting alone in the bungalow.]

[And she constantly uses being tired as an excuse to reject him.]

[When she’s busy, she won’t come near him for three months.]

[Most people eat every day. She’s feeding him once a season.]

[No normal man could take that. Especially a high-needs guy like him.]

[If I were him, I’d want a divorce too.]

[Don’t go to sleep, ice queen. He’s got enough energy to last until dawn.]

Maybe I was just naturally cold when it came to this. That hour in the bathroom really was enough for me. I had no energy left to stay up all night with him.

I figured I’d just get some sleep. When I woke up, I could make it up to him.

Thinking that eased my guilt a little. As soon as my head hit the pillow, I was out.

While I was half asleep, I felt large hands pull the blanket up over me. I rolled over and went back to sleep.

Hunter stared at my sleeping face for a long time, so long that the moon slipped behind the clouds and the light in his eyes slowly died out.

I heard him whisper, “Stella, let’s get a divorce.”
