My Husband Saved My Cousin Instead of Me Chapter 06

Even though I already knew Cecilia’s fans called Gavin their “billionaire hubby,” hearing him say yes still felt

like someone had carved a chunk straight out of my chest. Bloody. Raw.

I sucked in a breath, forced the tears down, and asked again. “So, Mr. West, your wife is Cecilia-not

somebody else. Right?”

The second he saw that tear slip down, something flickered in Gavin’s eyes-maybe guilt. He started to

correct himself, but my dad jumped in. “Gavin, this niece was spoiled rotten by her aunt.”

“Ever since we were kids, she’s been stealing from Cecilia-dresses, dance classes, and now she’s bold

enough to try and swipe her husband.”

“Don’t give her an inch. Outsiders stay outsiders. An ungrateful brat you can never tame.”

Hearing my own father describe me that way, Gavin looked genuinely horrified. The war inside him was

obvious. But then Cecilia stepped forward and laced her fingers through his.

“Gavin, have you forgotten? To stop me from entering a dance competition, my cousin once put thumbtacks

in my ballet shoes. Mom, Dad-tell him. You were there.”

Dad nodded so fast he looked like a bobblehead on fast-forward. Mom’s face went bone-white. For a second,

something flickered in her eyes-guilt, maybe, or just pain. But with that camera pointed at her, she forced

out a stiff nod.

I couldn’t help the hollow laugh. “Aunt? Uncle? Is that really what happened?”

The truth was, I’d won a spot in a math competition. To stop me from going, Cecilia pulled her own stunt and

put the thumbtacks in her own shoe.

My punishment was going three days without food. Mom snuck me a small bowl of chicken broth-barely

enough to keep me standing-and asked why I was so damn stubborn. Why I always had to fight with my

cousin.

None of them ever believed me. And now, even Gavin had joined their side. He couldn’t even stand to look at

my face and forced the words out. “Everyone, let me make this official. Cecilia is my wife.”
