Right then, my dad’s booming voice exploded. “Get your host in here! What kind of question is this?”

“You’re seriously putting it out there that my daughter isn’t mine? That I ditched my own kid to chase my

niece halfway across the world?”

“And now you’re saying she stole her husband too? Are you out of your damn mind? I’ll have your boss

blacklist you so fast your head will spin.”

People always turn vicious when you hit too close to home.

Gavin’s brows knitted together. His voice was ice cold and absolute. “Don’t let me see your station air

anything that damages Cecilia’s reputation.”

“Otherwise, my legal team will make sure your whole department is annihilated.”

I let out a dry laugh and motioned for the cameraman to follow. I pushed the door open. Dad, Mom, and

Gavin were all planted in front of Cecilia like a human barricade.

I met all their eyes and smiled, polite but distant. “Mr. West, these questions are exactly what the public

wants answered. Please point out which one isn’t a fact, so your company’s lawyers can sue. Go ahead. The

audience is dying to hear this.”

Gavin froze solid. “Sage… why is it you?”

“You haven’t been around lately, Mr. West. Maybe you didn’t know I switched jobs and got promoted.” I’d

Cecilia shot my dad a look, and he jumped right in. He strode up to the camera and cleared his throat.

nobody drag my daughter’s name through the mud.”

My mom looked away, refusing to meet my eyes. Gavin’s head tilted slightly, like he hadn’t expected them to

go that far.

Cecilia’s eyebrow arched. “Sage, come on. Don’t do this. My parents raised you since you were little. So they couldn’t take you overseas-is that really a reason to hold a grudge and try to ruin me?”

She linked her arm through Gavin’s, her eyes almost pleading.

“Gavin, we kept our marriage a secret for a year. I never imagined my own cousin would still be trying to go

“That’s what forced me to come back and build my career here. Right?”

Gavin looked at the cameras closing in, closed his eyes for a long, weighted beat, and said, “Yes.”
