My Husband Framed Me For His Mother’s Murder Chapter 09

The officer slammed his hand on the table. “Enough, the evidence is clear. Neither of you is getting out of this.”

He turned to the other officers and said, “Take them both into custody. They will be detained pending trial.”

Two officers stepped forward and put handcuffs on Michael and Jessica. Michael didn’t resist. He just looked at me with hatred. “You got lucky.”

Jessica collapsed to the floor, sobbing loudly, “I’m sorry. Please let me go. I won’t do it again. I’m sorry.”

Watching them being led away, I finally felt all the tension leave me.

Tears rolled down my cheeks, this time, they were for Patricia.

The officer removed the handcuffs from my wrists and said gently, “Ms. Carter, I’m sorry you went through that. Don’t worry, the law will deal with them harshly.”

I nodded and said through tears, “Thank you, Officer. You cleared my name. And you got justice for my mother-in-law.”

When I walked out of the station, night had already fallen.

The evening breeze carried a chill as it brushed my face.

I looked up at the night sky and felt a huge weight lift from my shoulders.

While Michael and Jessica were in custody, I quietly handled Patricia’s funeral arrangements.

I didn’t bury her ashes in a cemetery; instead, I followed the wish she had expressed while alive and scattered her ashes in the lake she loved.

As I watched the sunlight shimmer on the water, my heart slowly calmed down.

Soon, the court date arrived. I showed up on time and sat at the plaintiff’s table, watching Michael and Jessica being led into the courtroom by bailiffs.

They wore prison uniforms, and their hair was messy.

In just a few days, they looked like completely different people.

During the hearing, the judge read out their crimes.

The two had conspired to commit murder, file false reports, and fabricate evidence. Their actions were cruel and their methods vicious.

In the end, the court sentenced Michael and Jessica to life in prison without parole.

When I heard the verdict, I didn’t feel the joy I had expected, I just let out a quiet breath.

The people who had hurt me had finally received the harshest punishment.

After the hearing, I returned to that home full of pain, but I didn’t stay long, I just packed my things.

I couldn’t stay there anymore.

So I submitted a request to my company to transfer to an out-of-state office.

Considering my situation, the company quickly approved my request.

When I arrived in the unfamiliar city and stepped out of the transit center, a different kind of air greeted me.

There were no familiar faces, but I felt a sense of ease I had never known before.

In the days that followed, I threw myself into my work and slowly rebuilt my life, piece by piece.
