My Husband Faked His Death Chapter 18

He rushed over and hugged me, his voice breaking.
“Mia, I knew you still loved me! Otherwise, you wouldn’t have come all this way to search for me for three days after hearing I was missing. I really know I was wrong. It was Lily’s stupid idea.”
“Now I’m making her go through the same thing. But you shouldn’t have come. I could have stayed hidden longer and let her really feel what you went through. But I’m even happier that you did come.”
Before he could finish, Ryan yanked him back hard. “Jake, stay away from my girlfriend.”
Jake fell to the ground, watching Ryan pull me into his arms, his eyes blazing. “Your girlfriend? Mia is my wife. Ryan, you’re my—”
Ryan looked down at him and sneered. “Have you forgotten? You’re just the adopted son the Sullivans kicked out.”
Jake scrambled up and charged with his fists. I stepped in front of Ryan, arms spread wide, making Ryan’s face go pale. Luckily, Jake stopped his punch just in time.
“Mia! Why did you step in front of me? Are you crazy?”
I looked at Ryan’s furious face and gave him an apologetic smile. “Scold me later. Let me handle Jake first.”
Ryan forced his anger down.
I looked toward the corner. “Come out.”
Lily emerged, her face streaked with tears. She stared at Jake, all traces of love gone from her eyes.
My voice was cold. “Jake, is it fun to toy with the people who care about you, again and again? Do you enjoy watching us fall apart? If Lily hadn’t begged me to come, I wouldn’t have looked back even if you really died.”
