My Husband Faked His Death Chapter 14

“I dress lightly because I go from home to the car, and from the car to the office. I never feel the cold wind. Jake, why do you get to be good to me when you want, disappear when you want, and now expect me to remarry you just because you say so?”
“I loved you because you were good to me. You made me feel like you were gentle, attentive, and worth loving. But then I found out you’re not. You’re just a womanizer, a liar, a man who stops at nothing to get what he wants.”
“You vanished for three months for your own selfish reasons, kept everyone who cared about you in the dark, watched them suffer without a shred of remorse—and even thought that wasn’t enough, you wanted to make it worse. And that’s your idea of really loving me? That’s ridiculous.”
Jake stared at me, his body shaking. He wanted to say something, but couldn’t find the words.
“Anything else? If not, please move. I’m going home.”
He stood at the door, frozen, silent. I was fed up. I reached out to push him aside. But he suddenly pulled me into his arms.
“Mia, I really know I was wrong. Lily and I have nothing. I was just drunk that night. I made a mistake any man could make. I’ll stay away from her. Please, give me one more chance.”
He held me so tight I couldn’t break free no matter how I struggled. Then I was pulled into another embrace. I looked up and saw Ryan’s sharp jawline. His voice came from above.
“Jake, I told you. If you bother Mia again, the Sullivan family won’t lift a finger for you.”
