My Husband Died in a Crash, Only to Resurrect at My Funeral to Steal My Legacy Chapter 02

In the blink of an eye, I became the villain responsible for two deaths.

Everything happened so fast.

Yes, I wanted answers.

But I had never wanted them dead.

Overwhelmed by guilt, I took responsibility for caring for both families.

Yet Caleb’s parents never intended to let me move on.

Every day, they posted videos online accusing me of ruining their lives.

The internet turned me into a monster.

Meanwhile, Mia worried constantly about me, and her recovery never progressed the way it should have.

Three years later, I died during the coldest winter of my life.

What I never expected was to see Caleb and Kaylee standing at my funeral.

Alive.

Healthy.

Laughing.

Caleb’s face glowed with health.

Kaylee’s rounded belly revealed she was pregnant.

They stood over my coffin and laughed.

“Clara Winslow was such an idiot,” Kaylee said.

“For three years she took care of our parents and practically worked herself to death.”

Caleb chuckled.

“Honestly, she did us a favor. Now we don’t have to hide anymore. We can finally enjoy our lives.”

After my death, Caleb took over my company.

He kicked my parents out of their home.

He even abandoned Mia in the hospital.

Three days later, my daughter died in agony.

My parents couldn’t survive the grief.

By the end of that year, they were gone too.

Meanwhile, Caleb and Kaylee lived happily ever after.

In the mansion I bought.

Running the company I built from nothing.

Enjoying the life they stole from me.

“Clara!”

Caleb’s familiar voice yanked me back to the present.

His face was pale with panic.

He jogged toward me and grabbed my wrist.

“What are you doing here?” he demanded.

“Isn’t Mia having surgery today? Why aren’t you at the hospital?”

So he remembered.

At least that much.

“Look, I…” His eyes flickered toward the wedding reception behind him.

His voice faltered.

“Kaylee’s family has been putting a lot of pressure on her. You know how they are. I’m just helping her out. It’s all for show. Don’t make this into a bigger deal than it is.”

“Looks great.”

I smiled faintly as Kaylee hurried toward us.

My response clearly caught him off guard.

“Looks great?” Caleb frowned. “What’s that supposed to mean?”

Images from my previous life flashed through my mind.

The fake deaths.

The lies.

The destruction of my family.

I swallowed my disgust and pulled my wrist from his grip.

“The wedding looks beautiful,” I said calmly.

“I won’t be buying you a wedding gift, but congratulations. I wish you both a lifetime of happiness.”

Then I turned to leave.

Caleb remained frozen in place.

Behind me, Kaylee’s trembling voice rang out.

“Clara… are you angry with me?”

Three years of suffering flooded back into my memory.

This time, I wasn’t going to give them another opportunity to stage their deaths and ruin my life.

I turned around and smiled.

“Why would I be angry? Caleb already explained everything. He said he was just helping you put on a show.”

“It’s not a show.”

Kaylee interrupted me immediately.

She stepped forward and grabbed my hand.

“I love Caleb.”

Her eyes locked onto mine.

“This wedding is real.”

Shock flashed across Caleb’s face.

He clearly hadn’t expected her to say that.

He opened his mouth to explain.

But Kaylee spun toward him, tears gathering in her eyes.

“Caleb,” she whispered, “don’t you love me?”

That single sentence changed everything.

The guilt in Caleb’s eyes instantly transformed into tenderness.

Kaylee turned back to me.

Though she was still pretending to cry, triumph gleamed beneath the surface.

Her expression practically screamed:

I’m taking your husband.

What are you going to do about it?

I smiled.

“Fine by me.”

I met her gaze without flinching.

“He wasn’t exactly a prize worth keeping anyway.”

The smug expression on her face cracked instantly.

Clearly, she hadn’t expected that answer.

But I wasn’t interested in arguing.

I had no choice about returning to this moment.

All I wanted was freedom.

So I turned and headed for the exit.

I had barely taken a few steps when a white figure rushed past me.

“Clara!”

Kaylee’s voice broke into sobs.

“I knew you hated me! If you won’t forgive me, then I don’t want to live!”

A chill shot down my spine.

I spun around immediately.

Too late.

Kaylee was already running into the street.

Caleb chased after her.

And then—

A speeding semi-truck came roaring toward them.

BANG!

Everything happened exactly as it had in my previous life.

Caleb’s parents shoved me aside and rushed toward the accident scene, screaming hysterically.

I tightened my grip on my phone and walked forward as well.

But before I could reach the crowd, Eleanor Vance blocked my path.

She pointed toward the dark pool of blood in the street and glared at me.

“You’ve got some nerve showing up here!”

She collapsed onto the pavement and began wailing dramatically.

“You bring disaster everywhere you go!”

“If you hadn’t come here to confront them, Caleb and Kaylee would still be alive!”

“You’re a murderer!”

In my previous life, this was the moment I panicked.

I stood surrounded by strangers while everyone pointed fingers and condemned me.

I couldn’t defend myself.

From that day forward, my life spiraled downward until it ended in tragedy.

But this wasn’t the same Clara anymore.

I glanced at the crowd gathering around us.

Then I violently pulled my arm free from Eleanor’s grasp.

Without another word, I got into my car.

I slammed my foot onto the gas pedal and drove away.

Leaving her fake tears behind.

Through the rearview mirror, I watched Eleanor’s expression change.

The tears vanished instantly.

Confusion filled her eyes.

A cold smile tugged at my lips.

Just wait.

This time, it would be your turn to fall.

And I would watch every step.
