Under Ethan’s questioning, the panic on Vanessa’s face became impossible to hide.

“I… I don’t know. That woman kept saying Olivia’s name. Of course I assumed she was Olivia’s mother.”

Then she burst into tears.

“Maybe Olivia knew you gave the Lakeshore Restaurant to me, so she deliberately sent someone there to cause trouble. She just wanted to humiliate me!”

Ethan’s expression twisted.

Emily also looked as though she’d finally found the answer. “Ethan, I think Vanessa’s right.”

“Olivia must have arranged all of this. Otherwise, if she knew the dead woman wasn’t her mother,

why didn’t she explain that earlier? She just wanted to watch us panic.”

I almost laughed.

“I did explain. None of you ever listened.”

Ethan frowned.

“What exactly did you explain?”

“You kept saying the woman who died at the restaurant was my mother. Who would believe something that ridiculous?”

The people around us nodded one after another.

“Exactly.”

“Why would Margaret ever go to a restaurant and eat without paying?”

“Olivia is obviously just jealous of Vanessa.”

“Vanessa is young, beautiful, and capable of helping Ethan run his business. Ethan knows how capable she is, so what’s wrong with giving her a restaurant?”

“Was he supposed to give such a valuable restaurant to a woman who stays home all day?”

“I think the truth is obvious. Olivia hired some old woman to go to the restaurant and cause

trouble!”

Listening to them, I finally understood something.

In their eyes, I had no job title, no business card, no status worth flaunting at a cocktail

party.

So no matter what I said, my words would never carry as much weight as those of a beautiful blonde

assistant who followed Ethan everywhere.

As Ethan listened to the whispers around him, the disgust in his eyes grew stronger.

“Olivia, I used to think you were just overly jealous. I never imagined you’d do something this

vicious because of it. Marrying you is the biggest embarrassment of my

life!”
